Samsung Gear S3 and Gear Sport get Tizen 4.0 with Value Pack update

Peter, 22 January 2019

Samsung is rolling out the Value Pack update for the Gear S3 and Gear Sport, which includes an OS upgrade to version 4.0. The rollout started yesterday in select markets and will expand to more regions “in the near future”.

Samsung Health got a major update and can now track 39 types of exercise (20 of which indoors). Back to back workouts are supported as well. Strava, C25K (Couch to 5K) and TIDAL apps are now available.

The sleep notifications you get each morning have been simplified and a Sleep Widget has been added. The new Theater Mode and Goodnight mode will prevent the watch from disturbing you when you’re at an event or sleeping (these modes are accessible from the Quick Panel).

The new software also improves the messaging experience. While typing up a response, you can see previous messages (in case you need to refer to them) and you can use 1,500+ emojis. Incoming MMS messages will show attached images on screen and will even play animated GIFs.
