OnePlus wants you to pitch a new feature of Oxygen OS and it will implement it

Do you have what it takes to design a smartphone UI feature? No, this isn’t a new game show, OnePlus is challenging its fans to pitch a new feature for Oxygen OS.

But it’s not as simple as “X would be cool”, you need to go through a simplified version of the process that OnePlus product managers have do deal with every day.

If you want to participate, you’ll have to prepare a PRD (product requirements document) to answer theses four key questions:

  • Who are the users?
  • What is the proposed function?
  • What is the user value?
  • If there are existing comparable functions in the smartphone industry, how is your proposed feature superior?

You will need to include details on how your feature is to be implemented as well as explain the logic behind it and provide sketches that follow the flow of the interface.

Here’s an example, written by Gary C. (it details the categorized tags feature in the app drawer). Gary and other members of the Oxygen OS team will be scrutinizing your ideas and will pick the best ones.

You will need to provide design sketches such as this to explain how your feature works You will need to provide design sketches such as this to explain how your feature works You will need to provide design sketches such as this to explain how your feature works

The winner will be announced by mid-March and the team will actually get to working on it! Once it’s done, the company will reveal the feature at one of its launch events (and you’re getting a VIP invite with paid plane travel).
