Peter, 20 February 2019

Today Samsung made the jump to 5G and foldable, phones, showed its latest Galaxy S flagship line which consists of 4 phones, but it also took the time to refresh its wearable ecosystem with a smartwatch, two smart bands and new truly wireless ear buds.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active breaks away from the familiar design – there’s no rotating bezel! However, the watch walks the fine line between stylish and sporty and is quite thin, just 10.5mm (the Galaxy Watch is 12.7mm). The whole watch is rather petite with a 40mm diameter.

The hottest new feature is Blood Pressure Monitoring, the watch also supports the usual heart rate monitoring and aims to track your stress level. It can automatically track 39 activities with the help of GPS/GLONASS, accelerometer, gyroscope and barometer.

The Galaxy Watch Active is waterproof up to 5ATM, so you can hop in the shower and even jump in the pool. You can customize its look with 20mm interchangeable bands.

The watch features a 1.1” AMOLED display (360 x 360px) with Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The software is Tizen OS 4.0 running on an Exynos 9110 chipset with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of built-in storage.

The watch has a 230mAh battery that can be charged wirelessly from a Galaxy S10 (or any other Qi-based charger).

The Galaxy Watch Active costs $200/€250.

Samsung Galaxy Fit and Fit e

Surprisingly enough, the Galaxy Fit and Fit e smart bands can track even more activities than the watch – 90 – covering everything from rowing to an elliptical trainer. Both are water resistant up to 5ATM and super lightweight (the Fit is 24g, the Fit e is just 15g).

Both have heart rate monitors and will track your sleep and stress levels. They don’t run Tizen like the Watch, but you can still get alarms, calendar events and weather info from your phone.

The main difference between the two is the screen. The Galaxy Fit has a 0.95” color AMOLED with 120 x 240px resolution (282ppi). The Fit e settles for a smaller 0.74” black and white PMOLED with 64 x 128px resolution (193ppi).

The Galaxy Fit e starts at $100/€100.

Samsung Galaxy Buds

AKG tuned the Galaxy Buds for a premium sound, but they goes beyond music. The Adaptive Dual Microphones system places one mic on the outside and one on the inside, so your voice will be loud and clear in every environment.

Speaking of, Enhanced Ambient Sound that keeps you alert and aware of your surroundings by mixing in ambient sound.

The Galaxy Buds by themselves can play music for 6 hours or handle voice calls for 5 hours. The carrying case adds up to 7 more hours. If the Buds battery goes flat, putting them in the case for 15 minutes pumps in 1 hour and 40 minutes worth of charge. Of course, you can charge the case using the Wireless PowerShare feature of the Galaxy S10 phones.

The Galaxy Buds integrate with your phone’s smart assistant, including Bixby if you have a Galaxy. You can make a call or send a text, all without touching your phone.

The price of the Buds is $130/€150.

Because there is no VAT in the US unlike in the EU so US prices are quoted without tax. Tax is added separately and differs by state I believe.
