Watch Oppo's livestream from Barcelona for more of its 10x zoom camera and 5G plans

Peter, 23 February 2019

“Get closer”, says Oppo, winking at its 10x optical zoom camera that was announced in January. We should get more details on Oppo’s plans for that camera module today. Building up to the MWC, the company even posted a teaser, zooming in on the famous Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

Next-gen 5G connectivity will be part of the event as well. Oppo has partnered with several companies to do an AR video call over 5G using an a phone powered by the Snapdragon X50 modem.

So, the “getting closer” theme is carried both by the zoom lens and by being “transported” closer to your friends with augmented reality. But will we see a phone?

The Oppo F11 Pro leaked in its entirety, and while the 48MP camera sounded impressive, there was no mention of zooming or 5G (in fact, the MediaTek P70 chipset practically rules it out). We’ll probably have to wait until March 5 to see the F11 Pro unveiling.

The event starts in just minutes and you can watch it live below (sorry, no AR).

Update: It's over, but you can watch a replay or read about the upcoming phone with a 10x zoom camera.

Update: the YouTube stream seems to have an issue, check the Periscope stream instead.

Oppo Makes Innovation LOL

How was the last 5x Zoom of Oppo? Did they use it in some released phone model? Also did anyone use it and review it?
