Redmi flagship confirmed to arrive as the K20

Michail, 14 May 2019

We’ve seen some questionable naming details for Redmi’s upcoming flagship phone which will feature the Snapdragon 855. Yesterday, the brand’s General Manager Lu Weibing went on Weibo asking users to help with the naming of the new flagship and today he officially announced the upcoming device will be called the K20.

According to Weibing “K series is the performance flagship of Redmi and K is the killer first”. So we know where the K comes but why the 20 you may ask? Well, it seems that there is no exact reasoning behind the number apart from competing with Huawei as Weibing said his company has a lot to learn from Huawei's approach to marketing.

According to sources, the phone will feature a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a built-in fingerprint reader and Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The front camera will be mounted on a pop-up mechanism and sport a 20MP sensor. The highlight of the phone will be its Snapdragon 855 chipset - a first for the newly spun-off Redmi subbrand.

Around the back, the phone will feature a triple camera array with a 48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide and 16MP telephoto sensors. The battery will come in at 4,000 mAh with 27W fast charging support.

We might see the K20 with as the POCO F2 in certain regions but that’s just speculation at this point. The phone will be offered in Carbon Black, Glacier Blue, and Flame Red colors. We should be hearing more news about the Redmi K20 so stay tuned.

I know everyone compares it with other recently announced phones like the One Plus 7 , but the announced specs are way to similar to the MI 9 from Xiaomi, and the MI9 sells for 460, in terms of pricing they should be very close to 400 USD or less...
