Honor 20 Pro is now Google Play certified, international launch probably imminent

Vlad, 27 June 2019

For a while up until today it seemed like the Honor 20 Pro was the first smartphone victim of the US Department of Commerce's ban of American companies selling hardware or software to Huawei. The phone was announced alongside the Honor 20 just a few days after the ban, and while the Honor 20 had already gone through Google's certification process the Pro model hadn't concluded that evaluation at that point.

Thankfully though, it looks like the three-month reprieve has worked in Honor's favor, as the 20 Pro has now been added to the list of Google Play certified devices. This means that its launch in international markets (especially Western ones) is probably imminent. The Honor 20 got its Google Play certification on June 1, and it's already available to buy in places such as the UK.

Funnily enough for those of you who follow Huawei and Honor's handset naming antics, the listing in Google's database says "Honor 20 Pro / Nova 5T Pro" and "Honor 20 / Nova 5T", so the search giant may have spoiled an upcoming rebranding from the Chinese company. Don't be surprised to see the Honor 20 being sold as Huawei nova 5T and the 20 Pro going by nova 5T Pro in some markets.
