Another leaked Huawei Mate 30 Pro screen protector shows big notch and massive curvature

Victor, 27 July 2019

Despite Huawei keeping a tight lip on the topic, the Mate 30 and 30 Pro are coming. The latter has already been spotted in the wild an this is not the first time we have seen an alleged screen protector for the upcoming phone either.

First off, to get the obvious bit out of the way - YES, the massive notch, like the one on the Mate 20 Pro is apparently sticking around. Unlike the glass screen protector leaked earlier, the one pictured here simply has one big cut-out, instead of individual holes for hardware. As far as we currently know, the Mate 30 Pro will have no less than five holes in its notch. One is definitely for the selfie camera; another is for the proximity sensor, there is a hole for the speaker too. Rumors are the Mate 30 Pro will bring ToF for face unlock and some AR/VR emojis.

The other interesting part to note here is the massive display curvature the new screen protector shows. Granted, the background of the photos is not exactly ideal, but this might just be the best and most detailed angle we have gotten to date on the sides of the upcoming Mate 30 Pro. Well, their shape, at least. Comparing this to the previous screen protector leak yet again, we clearly see this new design lacks black bars on the sides. On tempered glass protectors these are typically put in place to hide the adhesive. Often times they end up covering a bit of the phone's glass, but with the added benefit of a better mount and no visible blurry, adhesive-stained glass shining thorough. But, we digress.

The interesting bit is that the glass on this protector seem to really extend down and even slightly curve inwards. It might be an optical illusion for sure, but if we assume that is the case then there might a real possibility of a Mate 30 Pro with no left and right frame? Perhaps no physical buttons? It's definitely an interesting idea to entertain since we already know completely removing physical buttons from a smartphone is technically possible, albeit not necessarily a good idea. In any case, we would love to hear your take on the matter in the comment section. Perhaps you can spot some minute detail we missed.
