Apple Watch Series 5 is coming this fall, analyst claims

Vlad, 16 August 2019

Famous analyst of all things Apple Ming-Chi Kuo has published another research note today, and this one is about the Apple Watch Series 5, which is apparently going to launch this fall. That's interesting because so far we haven't seen many leaks about Apple's next-gen wearable. If Kuo is right (and he generally is right more than wrong), then we might see the Watch Series 5 make its debut alongside the iPhone 11 at Apple's big fall event, which could take place on September 10.

The Apple Watch Series 5 and its successors will start to use displays from JDI. The Japanese company's panels will make up around 15-20% of the orders in 2019 and up to 70-80% in 2021. That's alongside a gradual increase in how many displays LG supplies Apple with for the iPhones. In that case, Apple is also said to be tapping BOE as well, to have a diversified supply chain (Samsung is the main iPhone display maker at the moment).

Kuo says the new Apple Watch will add a new ceramic casing design, but it's unclear if that will be just one model or the new material will apply to all of them. The Apple Watch Series 6 is expected to adopt microLED displays next year.
