Sony is expected to unveil its first 5G phone – or phones – at the MWC in late February. The rumors are still shifting, so some details are uncertain. Even the name of the new flagship is yet to be settled, we've heard everything from “Sony Xperia 1.1” to “Xperia 0” and “Xperia 3”.

It will pack a 4K HDR screen and will feature a Snapdragon 865 chipset with X55 5G modem. The camera department on the back will be upgraded to a quad setup with the addition of a ToF sensor.

The main camera sensor is expected to go up to 48MP (or even 64MP) and it will be joined by two 12MP sensors for the telephoto and ultrawide cameras. There’s some debate whether Sony will use the new IMX555 12MP sensor (that will be featured in the Galaxy S20+ and S20). Sony tends to use bespoke sensor designs for its own phones. The price is expected to be north of $900.

The second premium model expected at the MWC is the Sony Xperia 5 Plus. This one should be more compact though there’s no reliable info on the screen siz. CAD renders show the tweaks to the design, including reuniting the fingerprint reader and the Power key. This phone is also expected to boast Snapdragon 865 power and a 5G modem.

There’s a good chance that new mid-rangers will be unveiled to take over from last year’s Xperia 10 phones. Those might feature 5G connectivity too, a Sony K8220 appeared on Geekbench recently, sporting a Snapdragon 765G chipset.

It may be a while before these phones reach us, however, the premium models (Xperia 1.1 and 5 Plus) are expected to go on pre-order in May while the mid-rangers will have to wait until June.

There are literally people on XDA who said they used it, but it wasn't easy to get into. My point still stands, the fact that it's been there the whole time is amazing. Obviously the battery is gonna be an issue if it was allowed to be activated.
