Huawei P40 Lite in for review

Huawei has made it a habit to release the Lite version of its flagship series before the actual flagships, and such is the case with the P40 Lite as well. The phone was initially launched as nova 6 SE in Asia, but was upgraded to a part of the P40 portfolio in Europe and other markets.

The phone finally arrived with us for a review, but until that's complete here are our initial impressions.

The Huawei P40 Lite is arriving with a Kirin 810 chipset, meaning it is an entirely new platform that is relying on Huawei Mobile Services instead of Google Mobile Services. Huawei is busy building up its ecosystem and is quite confident it's now ready do deliver experience people will be happy about. The phone has four cameras on the back, arranged in a square setup, with the LED flash sitting outside the ensemble. The main snapper has a 48 MP Quad Bayer sensor that takes 12MP shots in its default binned mode and you also get an 8MP ultrawide angle camera. The other two modules are far less exciting - 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors.

The selfie camera is located inside a punch hole on the LCD and has a 16MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture.

A huge selling point for the €299 Huawei P40 Lite phone is the 40W fast-charging support through the USB-C. The charger comes in the box and in theory, you can top up 70% of the 4,200 mAh battery in 30 minutes. During our full review, we’ll see how the battery performs and whether or not these claims are true.

The Huawei P40 Lite feels a bit light and plastic in the hand, which takes some of the solid feel, but contributes a great deal to actual handling .
