The new phones and tablets of week 17

Chip, 26 April 2020

Unphased by the global lockdown the smartphone makers keep bringing new hardware and week 17 was particularly busy seeing 13 new devices join our database - 12 phones and a tablet. To make sure you haven't missed any of them here's a quick summary.

Oppo was one of the two most active makers, unveiling 4 new phones - in ascending price order those are the A12, A52 and A72 as well as the Find X2 Lite.

nubia followed with the announcement of the nubia Play - one of the cheapest 5G phones around and it comes with a 144Hz display too.

Arguably the most exciting event of the week gave us the Motorola Edge and Edge+, the latter marking the return of the once dominant maker to the flagship space.

Realme followed with the X50m - an agressively priced 5G phone that sadly seems destined to remain exclusive to China.

vivo's sub-brand iQOO then took the stage and gave us the Neo3, which brings a Snapdragon 865 and a 144Hz display at the hard to believe $380 price tag.

Finally it was Huawei's turn and the Chinese giant matched Oppo's tally in a single event. The nova 7 series got three additions - a vanilla 7, 7 Pro and 7 SE. Alongside them we welcomed the affordable Matepad tablet.
