OnePlus Watch reportedly further delayed

Enrique, 27 October 2020

Earlier this month, OnePlus teased a OnePlus smartwatch is on the way and “just a matter of time”. Although OnePlus didn’t have a concrete announcement or release date for such a device, a new report suggests the smartwatch project was “indefinitely delayed” – this according to Max Jambor via Voice.

The same leaker contradicts his own report from a while back that suggested the OnePlus Watch would be announced in October.

In 2016 first rumors about a OnePlus Smartwatch surfaced. At the beginning of the month, OnePlus itself have a hint at the OnePlus 8T Launch Event that a smartwatch could be launched in the near future that might bear the name OnePlus Watch.

OnePlus Watch reportedly further delayed

A few weeks ago, I announced that the OnePlus Watch would be presented in October, but according to the latest information from multiple sources, there are some changed regarding the launch.

According to my information, the OnePlus Watch announcement has been postponed without any new date. Now I don’t know the reasons for this step, but my guess is that there are some complications with the production or software development.

The leaker speculates that production or software development may have caused more severe delays for the new smartwatch. Based on the timing, it’s possible that OnePlus might still be able to get this product to market before the Holiday season, but based on the fact that we only were shown a teaser for this watch based on old sketches, we might be waiting until well into next year before we see a OnePlus smartwatch render.

It’s been reported last month that the new device would borrow its design from the vivo Watch that was announced in September. We wonder if OnePlus plans to put the latest Snapdragon Wear 4100 Platform that’s a significant update in performance and efficiency over the 2100 and 3100 Platforms. Currently, the only smartwatch with this new Platform is the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, which retails for $299.

The prospect of a OnePlus Watch will be intriguing. The brand already has a lineup of TWS earbuds and all that it’s missing to complete the trifecta is a smartwatch.
