Carl Pei launches Nothing

Prasad, 27 January 2021

Carl Pei today announced his new venture, a brand named Nothing. The London-based company is described as being "a new, forward-thinking consumer technology company" but as of this announcement does not feature any products in its portfolio.

Nothing was started by Pei after he left OnePlus last year in September, where he served as the company's co-founder alongside the current CEO Pete Lau. He later announced in December that his next venture has already received $7 million in funding from prominent names such as Tony Fadell (former CEO of Nest, inventor of iPod), Kevin Lin (co-founder of Twitch), Steve Huffman (co-founder and CEO of Reddit), Josh Buckley (CEO of Product Hunt), and Casey Neistat (YouTuber).

It’s been a while since anything interesting happened in tech. It is time for a fresh breeze of change. Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future. We believe that the best technology is beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use. When sufficiently advanced, it should fade into the background and feel like nothing.

Nothing will be releasing its first smart devices in the first half of 2021.

Selling smoke as a touchable thing. The best way to create a big hyper is to do this kind of nonsense.
