Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy foldable device appears to be inching nearer to its release date. The latest news comes from China, where the alleged Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 received its 3C certification. The certification details that the upcoming ZFold device will have a dual-battery system, totaling 4,275 mAh of battery capacity.

This battery system consists of two individual battery cells (2,215 mAh + 2,060 mAh). The dual cell system distributes the batteries’ weight across both halves of the foldable phone. Looking at these numbers, the Z Fold3’s battery capacity is lower than the Z Fold2’s 4,500 mAh total capacity. The reason for the tighter capacity is speculated to be due to the new device’s more compact form factor.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is reported to arrive with an IP water and dust resistance rating and with a model number SM-F916. Recent reports point to a launch date for two foldables in July. This may include both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and the Galaxy Z Flip2 (or Z Flip3). This contrasts with earlier reports that Samsung may launch four foldables in 2021 and that they’d launch later in the year.

Other rumors about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold3 speculated support for S Pen input (albeit without a slot to store it in), and that it might have a smaller external display than the Galaxy Z Fold2’s. It was also reported that the Z Fold3 would arrive with 256GB of storage while the Z Flip2 would arrive in both 128GB and 256GB configurations.
