Video shows the grueling endurance tests for the vivo X60 Pro+

Robots are yet to rise against humanity, they are biding their time and practicing on smartphones like the vivo X60 Pro+. The two minute clip below is a short montage of the elaborate and grueling testing procedure that vivo phones undergo before their design gets final approval.

First come the hard knocks. The phone is dropped, falling onto a hard marble floor from heights between 1 and 1.5 meters (3.3-5 ft). This is repeated 100 times at 26 different angles to root out any potential weak points.

Then it is rolled 300 times. And if you have a habit of carelessly tossing your phone on a table, so does vivo – the phone is tossed 42,000 times at various angles. Then a machine simulates sitting on the phone 1,000 times. Another twists it back and forth 500 times with 2 Nm of torque.

Then 35 kg of weight is applied to a single point. The phone is smashed several times with a steel ball weighing 32g. Then it is shaken for 2 hours to simulate the world’s worst shipping experience.

The various buttons undergo a lifetime of presses under the watchful eye of robots. The power button is pushed 70,000 times, the volume buttons 150,000 times and the under-display fingerprint reader is activated 500,000 times. Then a USB cable is inserted and removed from the port 10,000 times. And to make extra sure that the port is durable, cable is pushed to the side 10,000 times to simulate putting strain on the port.

Officially, the vivo X60 Pro+ does not have a water resistance rating. Unofficially, the phone undergoes 24 hours of humid, watery torture. It starts with being sprayed with salt water for 2 hours, then it’s 22 hours in a sauna. And if that wasn’t enough, cold water is sprayed at the phone from all directions.

It’s almost over. Almost. To test how the phone handles extreme temperatures, it is frozen at -40ºC (-40ºF), then it is roasted at 75ºC (167ºF). All of this doesn’t even cover the antenna, camera, performance and other testing procedures that a phone like the X60 Pro+ undergoes before being given the green light.
