SA: Global 5G smartphone sales in Q1 2021 soar, Apple with 30% market share

Strategy Analytics has published its latest research on 5G smartphone shipments around the globe, and the numbers look mightily impressive, with increases between 114% and 1,165% among manufacturers.

According to the report, the period between January and March 2021 saw 133.9 million sales, which is 458% more than last year’s mere 24 million.

Estimates are that Apple sold 40.4 million 5G iPhones. Strategy Analytics listed the increase as 100%, although it is technically an infinite number since Apple had zero phones with 5G connectivity in its portfolio last year.

According to Ken Hyers, Director at SA, Apple is the clear 5G leader due to the iPhone 12 being “wildly popular across China, Europe, and the US” with its “sleek hardware design and surprisingly competitive pricing”.

The list mentioned above does not include Huawei which fell victim to the trade war between China and the United States. Nature contains no vacuum, so its place on the 5G market was taken by domestic competitors Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

Only GSM Arena using Strategy Analytics (?) have these smartphone sales figures. All others have the global figures almost the same as follows Samsung 22%, Apple 15%, Xiaomi 14%, Oppo 11%, Vivo 10% and all others at 28% (+/- 1%). I think the 30% A...
