Our ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G video review is out

Yordan, 28 May 2021

ZTE's first Axon 30 series phone is the Ultra member. It's every bit the flagship with a Snapdragon 888 chipset, three 64MP shooters and a fourth 13MP periscope telephoto camera, as well as a large 144Hz AMOLED display.

We’ve already published our written review, and now the video version is also on our YouTube channel.

The Axon 30 Ultra definitely looks like the part with its sleek, thin body. It may lack features like IP68 certification or wireless charging, but as Will mentions in the video, this helps the price to stay a bit lower, compared with other flagships.

The 144Hz refresh rate is of rather limited use - only the UI utilizes it and all games are actually capped at 120Hz.

The Axon 30 Ultra comes with ZTE’s own MyOS 11 on top of Android 11, and it looks quite clean and stock-ish aside from the notifications. There are minor changes and improvements which could be turned off if they are bothering you in any way.

One of the key selling points of this phone is the camera setup. However, our tests have determined that the performance is slightly above average, which is not quite what you'd expect with this kind of impressive hardware.

Still the verdict is clear - yes, the phone lacks some flagship features, like a microSD slot, for example, but in the end, it costs just $749 or $849. And that's a tradeoff many will gladly take.
