LG Velvet 2 Pro unboxing video shows off its pressure-sensitive "buttons"

The LG Velvet 2 Pro will never get an official release, but at least it got an unboxing video, featuring one of the several thousand units that were sold to LG employees. This video shows the keyless design that could have been.

The phone has several “buttons” – a power button on top, two volume buttons on the side plus a Google Assistant button – except that they are pressure-sensitive pads rather than true buttons. It looks like the interface renders a few small rectangles as a reminder of where they are located (they look hard to find by touch).

The design of the back differs from the original Velvet as it has three equally-sized rings for each camera that stick out the back. These rings are painted in gold and make for attractive decorative elements on top of the glossy black back. Another difference is that the Velvet 2 Pro doesn’t have a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the bottom.

It looks like LG was thinking of including a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter in the retail package. The boxes featured in the video are quite weird and probably not how LG was planning on selling the phone, e.g. there are two transparent silicone cases and a USB-C cable, but no charger.

The second box (which is plain white cardboard) includes a 25W charger, the headphone adapter and yet another charger. It looks like the plant that had started building the new Velvet flagship just threw together what was laying around at the time when LG pulled the plug on its mobile business.

The specs of the LG Velvet 2 Pro are as we’ve heard previously – a Snapdragon 888 chipset, 8 GB of RAM,128 GB storage, 6.8” 120 Hz P-OLED display, a triple camera on the back (64 MP main, 3x telephoto and an ultra wide), plus a 4,500 mAh battery.
