Rumor: OnePlus 9 RT is in the works, an upgraded 9R with the 50MP IMX766 sensor

As you may have heard, there won’t be a OnePlus 9T (or 9T Pro) this year. But that may not be the whole story – the company is reportedly working on a phone (code named “Martini”), which may launch as the OnePlus 9 RT.

As the name suggests, it is a T version of the OnePlus 9R, which itself is a OnePlus 8T with a Snapdragon 870 chipset (replacing the 865). According to AndroidCentral, the 9 RT will offer “modest upgrades” over the 9R and like it will be only available in select markets.

The chipset remains the same, Snapdragon 870, with the same 4,500 mAh battery and same 65W charging. This should be the first OnePlus phone to launch with OxygenOS 12 (Android 12) out of the box.

The new version of the OS is reportedly adopting more features from ColorOS (which is now the basis for OxygenOS). It seems like OnePlus will not be switching to the new Material You design language, so the UI will look very similar to what we have with version 11.

The one major upgrade on the RT will be the camera - the 48 MP 1/2.0” sensor will be replaced with the IMX766 as seen in the 9-series and the Nord 2. This is a larger (1/1.56”) sensor with 50 MP resolution with 1.0 µm pixels (up from 0.8 µm).

The OnePlus 9RT is expected to arrive in October and will be available in India and China. Like with the 9R, a global launch is not on the cards. Along with the 9RT, a couple of Nord models are the only new phones that OnePlus will launch this year, claims AC.

2 things. 1. Battery could've been bumped up to 5000mAh, but they didn't. 2. Global markets so custom ROMs don't suffer like their crappy 9R and Nord2, but they didn't. OnePlus should change their slogan from "Ne...

It is sad to hear that it would be only available to limited markets, which means it would not be released globally.
