The Redmi K50 will support 100W fast charging, have IP68 ratings, says leakster

Peter, 07 September 2021

Yesterday, leakster Digital Chat Station posted details about a Snapdragon 870-powered phone with a 120Hz OLED display (6.7”, 1080p+), which may be a Redmi K50 model or perhaps part of a K40S series. Now DCS has more to share.

The K50 series will support 100W fast charging, making them the first in the family to reach triple digits (only flagship Mi phones and a couple of Black Sharks support 120W). The phones will be dust and water resistant with an IP68 rating and will have symmetrical stereo speakers (presumably meaning not earpiece + bottom speaker).

For comparison, the best that the K40 models have to offer is IP53 (basic dust and splash resistance) along with 67W charging (though that's only one of four models, the other top out at 33W).

There are rumors about the chipsets that will go inside the three Redmi K50 models too. The top one should be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 898, another model might use the current Snapdragon 888 and as mentioned in the beginning, the 870 is also an option.

Note that it’s not quite clear if all three K50 phones will do 100W charging or only the top model. Previous rumors have mentioned 67W. Also, there’s talk of a 108 MP main camera on the top model, 48 MP on the rest.

Chances are that Xiaomi will unveil the Redmi K50 series in China. They will probably use different names for the international markets (e.g. the Poco F3 is a slightly modified Redmi K40).
