Android 12 "monet" color theming may be adopted by other OEMs

With Android 12, the most significant UI change is arriving to the OS since Material Design was introduced with Android 5.0 Marshmallow. Dubbed "Material You", Android 12's new changes include a dynamic UI whose color scheme can adapt depending on the colors in the user's wallpaper.

This theme engine was codenamed "monet" and as per XDA-Developers, there's evidence that suggests that the color-scheming-theming engine may be gaining an API for Android 12.1. What this means is that other OEMs will be able to use the theme engine once they’ve updated their firmware for Android 12.1.

Evidence was found through an internal AOSP build of Android, which may technically be 12.1, where monet has been implemented. This was not the case with the official AOSP build of Android 12.

In the end, it will be up to the OEMs to implement Material You into their firmware. That is, if the Material You engine does end up in future open-source builds of Android 12.
