Bummer: Realme GT 2 Pro now tipped to skip telephoto unit, 150-degree ultrawide-angle camera confirmed

Sagar, 16 December 2021

Multiple reports have claimed that the Realme GT 2 Pro arriving on December 20 will sport a telephoto camera, but new information coming out of China suggests that won't be the case.

Word comes from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, who also claimed that Realme instead opted for a 150-degree super-wide-angle lens on the GT 2 Pro - something the young brand confirmed on Weibo by sharing a poster that, when machine translated from Chinese, says, "Explore a 150° horizon! Industry's first imaging technology."

Realme hasn't confirmed the resolution of this wide-angle camera yet, but previous leaks claimed it will use a 50MP sensor, which will be joined by another 50MP primary unit (with OIS). The third camera in the setup was expected to come with a telephoto lens, but since that's not happening, it remains to be seen what purpose this camera will serve.

It's a bummer to see Realme skipping a telephoto unit on the GT 2 Pro, which is touted as the company's "first-ever ultra-premium flagship" because it's been about a year and 10 months now since Realme launched a flagship with a telephoto unit - the X50 Pro 5G. Realme did launch the X3 and X3 SuperZoom later with telephoto cameras, but those were powered by an older-gen chip.

In addition to confirming a 150° camera on the GT 2 Pro, Realme teased the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered smartphone with a paper-like material, which will be "key to a green future" (machine translated from Chinese). Realme previously said the GT 2 Pro will feature the "world's first innovative bio-based material," but it didn't get into the details.

The Realme GT 2 Pro will also come with photography innovations and communications technologies which will be the world's firsts. However, details about these are scarce.

Anyway, with the official unveiling just four days away, there's not much waiting to be done to find out what the Realme GT 2 Pro has in store for us.
