Asus Zenfone 9 and ROG Phone 6 designs spotted in Android 12 update

Michail, 06 January 2022

Asus had a pretty solid phone lineup in 2021 with the Zenfone 8 and ROG 5 Phone series. Zenfone 8 was one of the few compact Android flagships while the ROG Phone 5 and its five variations offered arguably the best gaming phone experience. A new leak coming from within the Zenfone 8 series’ Android 12 update might have just revealed the designs of the Zenfon 9 and ROG Phone 6.

The first image comes from the Zenfone 8 running Android 12 and shows a hidden settings menu which details a new double-tap on the back gesture and a sketch of what is presumed to be the Zenfone 9. The device appears to have two camera modules and the text below them suggests a 50MP main shooter with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide snapper. There’s a 09 number below the camera text which further emphasizes that this is the Zenfone 8’s successor.

The second image comes courtesy of the same firmware and shows a sketch of the alleged ROG Phone 6. The device has a slightly altered appearance from the Zenfone 5 series with a larger cameras island and bigger rear display. The device will use a triple camera setup like last year’s model though we don’t get details on the sensors used here.

The LED flash looks to be positioned right next to the cameras this time around. We’re all but certain that ROG Phone 6 will use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset at the helm and it will be interesting to see what kind of thermal management Asus has cooked up.

Agree. I'd take sd 865, which still has more than acceptable performance, over an 888 if it gave me a thin phone with great thermals. Mobile chipsets actually hold onto their performance for a long time so long as they're flagship range. A ...
