Microsoft Q2 report shows major growth

Last week Microsoft made headlines with its planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard in the largest deal of the gaming industry and today we get the company’s FY22 Q2 results that cover the quarter ending on December 31, 2021. Microsoft managed $51.7 billion in revenues and a net income of $18.8 billion both representing 20% increases over 2020 values for the same period.

Growth was observed across Microsoft’s key product groups - Office, cloud services and Windows. Office commercial products and cloud services revenue rose 14% with Office 365 seeing 19% growth. The productivity and business processes saw combined revenue of $15.9 billion.

Intelligent Cloud group managed $18.3 billion in revenue which is 26% better than the prior year. The PC business which groups Windows OEM revenue, Windows commercial products, Surface hardware and Xbox content and services managed $17.5 billion in revenue.

Microsoft paid out $10.9 billion to its shareholders via share purchases and dividends which is 9% more than the same period in 2020. Looking forward, Microsoft expects the continued “PC renaissance” with users spending more time on PCs but warns of intense competition from rivals which may lead to lower revenues and operating margins in the coming quarters.
