Garmin has announced a new fitness band, dubbed vivosmart 5. The vivosmart 5 has a rounded band design and packs a 66% larger OLED screen compared to previous model, measuring 0.41" x 0.73" and having 88x154-pixel resolution.

The Garmin vivosmart 5 comes with the usual slew of health and fitness features, such as heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, activity tracking, and a step counter. It can also measure your blood oxygen (region dependent) and stress levels as well as body battery energy levels. The wearable also has a menstrual cycle tracker for women.

Additionally, the vivosmart 5 comes with a Fitness Age feature that uses your chronological age, weekly vigorous activity, resting heart rate, and BMI to estimate if your body is younger or older than you actually are.

There's also a safety and tracking feature for select outdoor activities that lets you send assistance alerts to your emergency contacts at the press of a button through a text message, which includes your live location obtained using the connected phone's GPS.

The rest of the Garmin vivosmart 5's highlights include smart notification alerts (for calls/SMS/apps) and 5ATM water resistance, meaning you don't have to take it off your wrist when going for a swim or shower.

Garmin says the vivosmart 5 can offer up to seven days of endurance without blood oxygen tracking during sleep but doesn't reveal the size of its battery.

It comes in White, Black, and Cool Mint colors with three size options - small, medium, and large. The first two weigh 24.5 grams, but the last one is a tad heavier at 26.5 grams.

The Garmin vivosmart 5, compatible with both iPhone and Android devices, is priced at $150 and is already available for purchase in the US through the company's official website.

Rare miss for Garmin. No onboard GPS and removed altimeter for stair tracking. Plus, fugly with limited bland strap colors.

looks like they fixed all the problems that I have with my 4. Particularly the ability to replace the watch band and the ability to see the face in full sunlight. For people that use Garmin connect this watch is great.
