Weekly poll: are the vivo X80 and X80 Pro picture perfect or do you see some flaws?

vivo’s next camera-obsessed flagships are here – the X80 series proudly displays the ZEISS branding and uses some impressive image sensors. But is it enough for you to part with your hard-earned cash?

We should note that the two phones were unveiled in China this week, but the global launch is scheduled for next Sunday. So, for now we will be working with Chinese pricing.

The vivo X80 Pro starts at CNY 5,500 ($840/€790/₹63,700). It is kitted out with a lot of custom hardware, including the 1/1.3” 50MP ISOCELL GNV sensor and the upgraded vivo V1+ ISP. The main camera has a very bright f/1.57 aperture and optical stabilization. The 12MP ultrawide-angle module features gimbal stabilization, plus two telephoto cameras – one 2x (suitable for portraits) and one with 5x optical magnification.

The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or a Dimensity 9000 chipset and a 4,700 mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. The quoted price above is for the base 8/256GB model with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, but configurations go up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB storage. The Dimensity 9000 variant will be available in 12/256GB and 12/512GB configurations.

The vivo X80 comes with a lower price tag of CNY 3,700 ($560/€535/₹42,900). Like its sibling, it has a large 6.78” AMOLED display (Samsung E5), however, the Pro has an LTPO2 panel and this one does not. The top refresh rate is still 120 Hz, though.

This model is the first to use Sony’s new IMX866 sensor (1/1.49”), a 50MP sensor with an RGBW filter. It sits behind an f/1.75 lens with OIS. Additionally, there is a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 2x portrait lens.

The battery on the X80 is smaller, 4,500mAh, but it keeps the 80W wired fast charging (not the 50W wireless charging, though). One final note – the base configuration has 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage (half what the Pro offers), the top offering matches the premium model at 12/512GB.

What else can you buy instead of a vivo X-phone? Well, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is cheaper than the Pro at CNY 5,000, but offers a similar 6.73” 120Hz AMOLED (LTPO) display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 50MP main camera (1/1.28” sensor), 50MP ultrawide (no optical stabilization) and a 50MP 2x telephoto camera (no periscope), plus a 4,600 mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is CNY 5,000 (for the same 8/256 GB memory configuration) and also has a large LTPO2 panel – 6.7” 120Hz AMOLED. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, of course, and you get a 48 MP main camera (1/1.43”), 50MP ultra wide (150° FoV), plus an 8MP telephoto module (3.3x). The 5,000 mAh battery charges at 80W (65W for the US model) over a wire and 50W wirelessly.

The Oppo Find X5 Pro also comes in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000 variants, an 8/256 GB unit will set you back CNY 6,000 (€1,300 in Europe). The Oppo and the OnePlus share Hasselblad branding and influence over their cameras – the Find X5 Pro in particular has a 50MP main (1/1.56”) with OIS+sensor shift, a 50MP ultrawide (1/1.56”) and a 13MP telephoto (2x), plus a custom MariSilicon ISP. The display is another 6.7” 120Hz LTPO2 AMOLED, the battery a 5,000mAh power cell with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Xiaomi 12 Pro • OnePlus 10 Pro • Oppo Find X5 Pro

The Xiaomi 12 matches its opponent at CNY 3,700, but opts for smaller package with a 6.28” display (120Hz AMOLED) and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It has a 50MP main camera (1/1.56” Quad Bayer sensor), 13MP ultrawide and no telephoto (unless you count the telemacro module). The battery has the same capacity, 4,500 mAh, with similar charging (67W).

The Poco F4 GT launched this week, it is essentially a global version of the Redmi K50 Gaming (which goes for CNY 3,000 in China). We’re looking at comparable screens (6.67” 120Hz AMOLED on the Poco/Redmi), a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, a fairly basic camera setup (64+8+2 MP) and a 4,700 mAh battery with 120W fast charging.
