Huawei launches MateBook D16, 16s, and Freebuds Pro 2 in Europe

Ivan, 29 June 2022

Huawei is bringing its Freebuds Pro 2 wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation, and two MateBook laptops to the European market.

All three devices have been out and about on other shores, but this is their move west.

Huawei Freebuds Pro 2

The Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 is the company's flagship TWS pair. Each bud has dual drivers, which achieve what Huawei calls a Hi-Res Dual sound system. The buds can detail sound from 14kHz all the way to 48kHz.

For noise canceling, the Freebuds Pro 2 can suppress up to 48dB, up from the 40dB of their predecessor.

The Freebuds Pro 2, like most earphones, can pick up outside noises and counter them during calls. What Huawei improved here is a new deep neural network algorithm that learns and adapts with time. Sound should also sound great thanks to the partnership with Devialet.

Battery-wise, the Freebuds Pro 2 offer as much as 30 hours from buds and case combined. Buds-only, you're looking at 4 hours with ANC and up to 6 and a half hours without.

The Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 come in Silver Blue, Silver Frost (the Black ones), and Ceramic White. The TWS are on sale from July 6, priced at £170.

Huawei MateBook 16s

The Huawei MateBook 16s is the company's flagship laptop. It's heavily based on last year's Matebook 16, however, this year Huawei has moved to the latest 12th gen Intel processors, instead of last year's AMD Ryzen options. You can choose either the Core i7-12700H (with 6 performance and 8 efficient cores), or the i9-12900H (also 6 performance and 8 efficient cores, but a maximum boost of 5GHz).

The display is the same 16-inch 2520x1680px 3:2 touchscreen panel. It supports 100% of the sRGB gamut, has a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and up to 300 nits. The panel comes calibrated with an average Delta E of below 1.

Graphics are handled by the Intel Iris Xe, as there's no discrete GPU. You get 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a choice between 512GB or 1TB NVMe PCIe storage.

The MateBook 16s has an 84 Wh battery and a 135W charger in the box.

Huawei will sell the MateBook 16s from July 13 through its official retail store. The Core i7 variant is £1,300, while the Core i9 is €1,500. Buyers who purchase the i7 model from July 13 and July 23 will get a free MateView GT 27 monitor, while buyers of the i9 model, in the period between July 13 and July 26 will get a free MateView monitor.

Huawei MateBook D16

The Huawei MateBook D16 is a notch below the 16s in terms of hierarchy. Its display is a more conventional 16:10, which still has a bit more vertical space than the typical 16:9 panel.

The resolution is a bit lower at 1920x1200px, but the brightness and color gamut support are equal to the 3:2 panel on the MateBook 16s.

The MateView D16 is coming July 16, priced £1,000 for the Core i7 model, and £750 for the Core i5 model. Those who pre-order between June 29 and July 12 will get a free MateView GT 27 monitor.
