It’s official – the revamped MacBook Air with M2 will go on pre-order on July 8 (this Friday) and will start shipping worldwide a week later on July 15 (just as insiders claimed). US prices start at $1,200 ($1,100 for teachers and students).

That is for a version with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. For $300 more you can get the version with a 10-core GPU and 512GB storage. You can add more RAM (up to 24GB this generation) and storage (up to 2TB). If the price of the new Air seems steep, you can trade in an old device to get some store credit, more details here. Also, the M1 version is still available at $1,000 (8/256GB).

A 30W or 67W USB-C power adapter is included for free (depending on which model you get), but you may want to pick up some accessories along the way. For example, the 35W dual USB-C adapter goes for $59 (available in Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and the US).

Compared to the M1-based MacBook Air, the new M2 model has a slightly larger 13.6” Liquid Retina Display (with higher brightness, 500 nits). The laptop is thinner (1.13cm vs. 1.61cm) and lighter (1.24kg vs. 1.29kg). The FaceTime camera is upgraded to 1080p resolution (downside: it lives in a notch), also the laptop also comes with four speakers. Finally, MagSafe charging has returned.
