Amazon Prime Video redesigned with a better navigation menu, faster content search

Sagar, 19 July 2022

Amazon has begun rolling out the redesigned UI for its Prime Video app with the primary goal of making content finding easier for its users. And the first step in that direction is a simplified main navigation menu that's easily accessible, allowing Prime Video customers to browse through the broad selection of movies, TV shows, sports, and premium channels quickly.

Prime Video users get an easy access path to the titles included with the Prime membership, including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The new navigation menu in the living room apps has also been relocated to the side of the screen for better access. The apps will launch with six primary pages - Home, Store, Find, Live TV, Free with Ads, and My Stuff. There will also be sub-navigation options if users want to browse by the content or offer type.

The redesigned UI also brings a new carousel that presents videos with more cinematic imagery, allowing the content to stand out from the rest. For example, The "Top 10 Chart" will showcase popular and trending content on Prime Video, whereas "Super Carousel," with its poster-style artwork, will display featured titles such as Amazon Originals and Exclusives. Amazon says the new carousels also help provide an experience that's less busy and overwhelming for its Prime Video customers.

Additionally, Amazon is making it easier for Prime Video users to identify what content is included with their Prime membership and what is available for purchase. This is done by adding visual cues in the form of a blue checkmark icon and shopping bag icon. The former indicates the content is included with the Prime membership, while the latter tells you the content is available to buy, rent, or subscribe to. You can also access all videos included in your Prime membership by clicking on the "My Subscriptions" row near the top of the Home page.

The new UI brings some improvements to the "Find" page as well, which now shows suggestions live as you type in the search box while also using the visual cues mentioned above in search results. You also have the option to filter the results by genre or 4K UHD.

This revamped UI is already rolling out for Prime Video apps on Fire TV, Android, and other connected living room devices. iOS and the web will get it in the coming months.
