New Moto G62 launches in India with Snapdragon 695 chipset

Peter, 11 August 2022

Motorola already unveiled a Moto G62 5G back in June, but now the company has built a separate device with the same name for the Indian market. It brings more processing power, but it is mostly the same phone. It is also similar to other Motos, more on that in a bit.

The new Moto G62 is powered by the Snapdragon 695 chipset, replacing the Snapdragon 480+ of the previous G62. A quick comparison shows a newer node (6nm vs. 8nm), newer CPU cores (2x Cortex-A78 and 6x A55 vs. 2x A76 + 6x A55), plus the GPU is faster (despite both chipsets claiming “Adreno 619”).

There are two configurations listed on Motorola India – one with 6GB of RAM and one with 8GB, both with 128GB storage. That tops the original version, which only has 4GB of RAM. You also get a microSD slot (for cards up to 1TB), as long as you don’t plan on using a second SIM card. The phone runs “near stock” Android 12 out of the box.

The last major change relates to the battery – the capacity is still at 5,000mAh, but the charge speed went up to 20W (up from 15W, “major change” may have been an exaggeration).

Besides all of that, the phones are basically the same. They have 6.5” displays with FHD+ resolution (20:9) and 120Hz refresh rate. Punch holed into that is a 16MP camera (f/2.2, 1.0µm native pixels, 2.0µ with 4-in-1 binning), which can record 1080p video at 30fps.

Flipping over to the other side, there is a 50MP main camera (f/1.8, 0.64µm native pixels, 1.28µm with 4-in-1 binning), an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera (118°, f/2.2, 1.12µm) and a 2MP macro camera. The wide and ultra wide cameras are also limited to 1080p video resolution (the main can do it at 60fps, the ultra wide at 30fps).

The Moto G62 has a plastic body with a water repellent design. It measures 8.6mm thick and weighs 184g. Continuing our tour, there is a fingerprint reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack (with an FM radio receiver) and a USB-C 2.0 port. The phone has stereo speakers and two microphones on board.

Like the global version, this model has 5G connectivity (which will soon be useful). Additionally, the phone offers Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.1, but lacks NFC.

We mentioned similar models, like the Moto G82, for example. It uses the same Snapdragon 695 chipset (6/8GB of RAM + 128GB storage) and the 50+8+2MP camera is the same. The display is different, a 6.6” AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, and the 5,000mAh battery charges faster at 30W. There is also the Moto G71s, which is very nearly identical to the G82.

The new Motorola Moto G62 5G variant will be available in India from August 19 (in Midnight Gray and Frosted Blue). The base 6/128GB model will have a ₹18,000 price tag, the extra 2 gigs of RAM add ₹2,000 to the cost. You may be able to score some discounts, though, more details over at Flipkart.

By the way, the Moto Tab G62 slate will launch a couple of days before that on August 17. This is a 10.6” Snapdragon 680 tablet, which will be available in Wi-Fi and LTE flavors.

Basically very very similar phones, with different names for different markets, all these phones together are not available in a single country,so there shouldn't be any confusion!Unlike brands under BBK Umbrellas(Oppo,Vivo,Realme,OnePlus) !

32/42/52/62 are almost same device. 71/71s/82 are basically same phone.

There is no confusion. Moto G71/G82/G62 are equally good devices. Motorola is giving you choice with these devices.
