Apple says that a fix for iPhone 14 Pro (Max) camera shaking is coming next week

Peter, 20 September 2022

As you may have heard, the new cameras on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have an issue with third-party apps that causes their autofocus or OIS systems to go wild and vibrate uncontrollably. Apple is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

This makes video captured with the camera unusable and worse, it may end up damaging the hardware. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus do not seem to be affected, however.

Also, Apple’s own camera app is working fine, which suggests that this is a software issue rather than a hardware one. Again, it only affects third-party cameras. Of course, installed apps shouldn’t be able to cause your camera to go haywire, so this is probably a bug with the camera API.

If your phone experiences this issue you should know that there is no known workaround, other than not using, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and similar apps that trigger the problem – Apple says that a fix is coming next week, so you’ll need to hold off until then.
