Samsung's future foldable smartphones might have an S Pen slot

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold4 in August with support for the S Pen, but it didn't have an S Pen slot like the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Well, that could change with Samsung's future foldable smartphones since in a meeting with its suppliers last month, Samsung confirmed that the lack of a dedicated stylus slot on the Galaxy Z Fold series is one of the challenges that need to be addressed to make the lineup more popular.

The Korean conglomerate had initially planned to include an S Pen slot on the Galaxy Z Fold4, and it also wanted flagship cameras on the foldable smartphone, but it couldn't manage to do either due to weight and thickness limitations.

Samsung wants to improve on both these fronts to make the Fold lineup more popular in addition to making its foldables lighter, thinner, and more durable. The company also stressed the development of software that fits the 4:3 screen ratio of the Fold series and wants to reduce the screen crease for a better user experience.

Aside from talking about the challenges faced by the Galaxy Fold series, Samsung told its suppliers that it expects the foldable smartphone market to have a CAGR of up to 80% by 2025.

The company also expects Apple to enter the foldable space in 2024, but with laptops and tablets first instead of smartphones. Besides, Samsung revealed that iPhone users in their 20s and 30s in South Korea were changing their devices to Samsung's foldable smartphones at a rate 3-4 times higher than before, and up to 90% of current foldable smartphone users are expected to buy foldable smartphones as their next device.
