TCL unveils NXTPAPER 11 with second gen display tech, more affordable Tab 11 slate

Peter, 26 February 2023

TCL unveiled the second generation of its NXTPAPER display technology at the MWC 2023 and the first tablet to make use of it, plus a more affordable tablet with a standard display.

TCL NXTPAPER 11

The TCL NXTPAPER 11 is smaller than the 12” tablet from CES and cheaper too - it costs less than half the money. The new slate has a 10.95” IPS LCD with 2,000 x 1,200px resolution (15:9), which has a special coating that gives it a paper-like texture. This is matched with an optional stylus supports stylus that can detect 4,096 different levels of pressure.

The NXTPAPER 2.0 tech is much brighter than the original and can hit 500 nits. The anti-glare design makes it usable even under bright ambient light and a dedicated light sensor will match the display’s color temperature to that ambient light.

The tablet is powered by a Helio P60T chipset and lacks mobile connectivity (the NXTPAPER 12 Pro does 5G thanks to its Kompanio 800T chip). It runs Android 13 and has advanced multitasking capabilities like split-screen and floating window modes. Storage is expandable via the microSD slot.

Local connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.0. The 8MP front facing camera has a wide 100° lens and there are two mics and four speakers on board, making this slate well-suited for video calls. There is also an 8MP camera on the back.

The tablet measures only 6.9mm thick, weighs 462g and has an 8,000mAh battery built in. This is charged over USB-C with the included 18W charger.

The TCL NXTPAPER 11 will be available in Europe starting in May and will later expand to other regions. The slate is priced $250, the T-Pen stylus is sold separately. TCL has other accessories ready too, including a Bluetooth keyboard, flip case and a TP screen protector.

TCL Tab 11

The TCL Tab 11 comes in two versions – 4G and Wi-Fi. In both cases power is provided by the same Helio P60T chipset (4x A73 + 4x A53 at 2.0GHz, PowerVR GE83200) with 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. There is a microSD slot, plus (optionally) a SIM slot.

The display is similar too, a 10.95” IPS LCD with 2,000 x 1,200px resolution (15:9) and support for the optional T-Pen stylus (4,096 levels of pressure). It lacks the NXTPAPER enhancements, though. On the front, the 100° wide angle lens for the 8MP camera gives you the freedom to move around during video calls. The camera on the back also has an 8MP sensor.

The slate is equipped with Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and for a bit more cash, LTE. There are four speakers and 2 mics on board. Like its pricier sibling, the Tab 11 measures only 6.9mm thick and packs an 8,000mAh battery and an included 18W charger.

The TCL Tab 11 will be available from May, the Wi-Fi model will cost $180, the 4G version will be slightly pricier at $210. There are optional accessories like the aforementioned T-Pen, a Bluetooth keyboard and protective case and film.

Sorry but what stylus technology? Did I miss something? eh why nobody ever mentions their pen technology? There are more than one or two. This could be a choosing factor for some.

because people don't really grasp aspect ratios, and you see it every time someone makes a "remember when 5.5" phones were considered big?" joke. A 6.5" phone sounds like 80% of a 8" tablet while actually having half t...
