Google Pixel Watch costs $123 to make, new report shows

Vlad, 02 March 2023

Google launched its Pixel Watch last year and priced it from $349 in the US. But just how much does it cost the company to make the smartwatch? A new report today from Counterpoint Research focuses on exactly that. The in-depth analysis reveals that the total Bill of Materials (BoM) for the Pixel Watch amounts to $123.

That number doesn't include R&D and marketing costs, bear in mind. Samsung is the primary financial beneficiary, netting around 20% of the BoM cost for itself, thanks to the supply of the chipset, LTE transceiver for the LTE-capable model, as well as "other paired components". There's an NXP co-processor in there too, as well as Kingston-made memory. The combined cost of the two processors and the memory accounts for nearly 27% of the BoM.

The second biggest supply-side beneficiary is BOE, which sells Google the custom 1.2-inch OLED display. This amounts to 14% of the BoM. The GPS chip is supplied by Broadcom, as is the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip, while STMicroelectronics supplies the component needed to support eSIM and Google Pay.

The six-axis inertial sensor and the digital compass come from STMicroelectronics too, while the heart rate monitoring system uses Texas Instruments parts.

Wow - the comments on this are hysterical. Every other comment is basically "tell me you have no idea how a business operates without telling me". Outstanding.

I don't mind if they make a profit. I mind if their profit is as absurd as it is.

And you legitimately believe all that amounts to over a hundred fifty per unit?
