The Motorola Edge 40 Pro was announced today, and the phone is every bit the 2023 flagship - Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, super-fast 125W charging and large sensor 50MP main camera.

The same hardware was previously announced as the Moto X40 in China, but that one had heavy customizations for the local market, while the Edge 40 has a cleaner UI much closer to stock Android 13 experience.

The phone comes with a 6.67” AMOLED panel of 165Hz refresh rate. It has 1080p resolution and 2.5D curved sides, and the phone has Gorilla Glass Victus front and back. There is also an under-display fingerprint scanner. The 60MP selfie camera is mounted inside a punch hole.

The Edge 40 Pro two 50MP shooters at its back - main unit with 1/1.55" sensor, OIS, and F/1.9 aperture and a 117-degree FoV ultrawide unit with autofocus, 1/2.76" sensor, and f/2.2 lens. The third camera has a 12MP 1/2.93" sensor and 2x f/1.6 telephoto lens.

The phone has a slightly smaller battery than the Edge 30 Pro at 4,600mAh capacity. The included charger is said to fill the battery from 0 to 50% in seven minutes and give you a full charge in under 20 minutes. Wireless charging reaches 15W, and the phone does support reverse wireless at 5W.

Motorola will sell the Edge 40 Pro in Europe and Latin America with one memory combination - LPDDR5X 12 GB RAM + 256 GB UFS 4.0 storage with no room for micro SD; at least the tray hold two SIM cards.

The Edge 40 Pro brings IP68 resistance against water and dust ingress (it can survive under 1.5m of water for 30 minutes). Motorola managed to keep a slim profile of the device - 8.6mm thick at the base with a weight of just under 200 grams.

Motorola is launching Edge 40 Pro in Blue or Black for €899.99 across Europe “in the coming days”. Availability and pricing will slightly vary by specific countries, with details expected to emerge over the next couple of days.
