Xiaomi Band 8, Sound Move speaker, 86-inch Mini LED smart TV unveiled

Continuing the coverage of new Xiaomi products that were announced today brings us to the Xiaomi Band 8, Sound Move speaker and the new 86-inch mini-LED smart TV.

The eighth iteration in the Xiaomi Band series brings retains the 1.62 inches AMOLED pill-shaped screen of its predecessor with 490 x 192px resolution a 60Hz refresh rate. Band 8 also brings Always on Display support and a 600 nits peak brightness compared to 500 nits on Band 7.

Band 8 comes with plenty of official strap options from Xiaomi including all sorts of materials such as leather, nylon fabric and metal in various styles. Xiaomi is also offering a pendant accessory as well as a clip that can be attached to your shoes for more advanced tracking and posture monitoring.

The wearable is still 5ATM waterproof and weighs 27 grams. The health tracking sensors remain unchanged with a heart rate monitor, blood oxygen level tracker as well as sleep and stress tracking.

You get the same core set of fitness tracking but with the added benefit of interactive fitness courses that leverage Band 8’s accelerometer to help track your movements in real time. These courses will be offered on Xiaomi’s Mi Fitness app with the walkthroughs showing up on your phone or tablet.

Xiaomi is boasting longer battery life with 16 days with typical usage and 6 days with AOD mode on. Band 8 also gets a new two-pin charger which promises a full charge of the 190 mAh battery in one hour.

Xiaomi band 8 pricing is set at CNY 249 ($36 converted) and CNY 299 ($43 converted) for the NFC version. International pricing and availability were not detailed.

Xiaomi Sound Move speaker

Xiaomi also unveiled a new smart speaker dubbed Sound Move. It brings an aluminum casing, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, LHDC codec support and is IP66 rated for water and dust. There’s a row of touch-sensitive controls on the side including a button to summon a digital assistant.

The device is equipped with two 7.5W drivers and two passive radiators with tuning by Harman Kardon. Battery life is rated at 21 hours of playback on a single charge thanks to a 4,150 mAh battery.

Xiaomi 86-inch Mini LED smart TV

Xiaomi’s new 86-inch Mini LED smart TV brings 4K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. Xiaomi is boasting a new in-house developed image quality engine that should optimize all sorts of content played on the TV.

The TV is equipped with a Cortex A73 CPU and Mali-G52 GPU alongside 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. You also get a 70W speaker assembly and 3x HMDI 2.1 ports. The software side is handled by MIUI TV.

Pricing is set at CNY 15,999 which converts to $2,320 as of today’s exchange rates.
