Vivo quietly announced the Y17s smartphone in Singapore, which is a low-end handset with pretty basic specs and we are unsure whether it will make it outside of Singapore but it likely will.

The vivo Y17s runs on a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and is built around a 6.56-inch IPS LCD, 720p display with 60Hz refresh rate. And although that may not sound like much, vivo advertises 840 nits of peak brightness, which should be enough for comfortable outdoor use even in a bright sunny day. There aren't many memory variants to choose from, just the one 6GB/128GB. A microSD card slot is available, though.

Camera-wise, the device carries a rear 50MP f/1.8 camera coupled with a 2MP depth sensor, while the selfie camera relies on an 8MP sensor coupled with f/2.0 aperture.

The whole hardware is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, supporting rather slow 15W of charging. It also boots Funtouch OS 13 on top of Android 13. Other notable features include IP54 certification against splashes and dust.

The device is now available for purchase in Singapore for SGD 199 ($146) in Glitter Purple and Forest Green. It will likely make its way to other Asian countries and it appears that Singapore is just the first stop.

Vivo and Oppo phones do look nice at retail stores. That's why people buy them despite the seemingly bad spec.

despite the fact that these are budget phones, those colors are quite nice

Trash specs. I will not believe it if construction workers still buy overpriced phones like this without the knowledge that the Redmi note 12 4g exists for a cheaper price in Singapore.
