Steam Deck OLED is here with HDR and better battery life

Vlad, 09 November 2023

Valve launched the Steam Deck handheld gaming PC back in 2021, and now it's finally time for a refresh. The new Steam Deck OLED is here, and the name gives away its main upgrade. No more LCD screens, you get an OLED this time around, with HDR support no less, and the capability to go up to 1,000 nits in brightness while of course showing the deep blacks OLEDs are known for.

The Steam Deck OLED will become available on November 16 at 10 AM Pacific. You can get one with 512GB of storage for $549/€569, or with 1TB for $649/€679. The 256GB LCD model has also received a price cut to $399/€419 and will remain on sale as the entry-level option, while the 64GB and 512GB LCD versions are being phased out.

They're not out of stock just yet, though, so if you want one, you need to hurry. The 64GB model goes for $349/€369 and the 512GB unit can be yours for $449/€469.

The new Steam Deck OLED has 1280x800 resolution from its 7.4" diagonal (that's ever so slightly larger than the LCD's 7"), 90 Hz refresh rate, a 6 nm APU, 16GB of 6400MHz LPDDR5 RAM, support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, and a 50Wh battery that should last for 3-12 hours of gameplay, which Steam says is 30-50% more than the LCD models. The Steam Deck OLED weighs 30g less than the LCD version. You get a 45W power supply with a 2.5m cable too, and a carrying case bundled.
