Spotify rolls out music videos to Premium subscribers in 11 markets

Vlad, 13 March 2024

Today Spotify has announced that it's rolling out music videos into its app in 11 markets: the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya. The feature will be in beta initially, and it will have a limited catalog of videos for the time being - but hits from global artists like Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, and Ice Spice are included, alongside "local favorites" like Aluna and Asake.

To watch music videos, you'll obviously need to be in one of those 11 markets, and be a Premium subscriber. The videos will be available in Spotify's apps on iOS and Android, as well as the website and TV apps.

If you want to switch from audio to video, just hit the Switch to Video toggle if you're listening to a supported song. Once you've done that the music video will start playing from the beginning within the Now Playing view. At any point you can then hit Switch to Audio in order to do just that. If you're watching a video on your phone, turning it to landscape mode will make the video fullscreen.

Spotify promises it will "continue to innovate and iterate" the music videos feature based on feedback from both users and artists. The catalog of music videos will gradually expand, as will the geographical availability of the functionality.

here I am still waiting for my liked songs to have genre buttons or something, like people in the US had for years, and instead, I have nothing, and they get new useless ways to waste bandwidth and battery life. sigh.
