vivo has introduced a new lower-midrange smartphone in Taiwan today - meet the Y38. There was no announcement or anything like that, the phone was just listed on vivo's official website for Taiwan. We doubt it will only be sold over there, so expect it to make its way to other markets soon.

The vivo Y38 comes with a 6.68-inch 720x1612 120 Hz LCD touchscreen, and it's powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset. This is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, which is expandable via microSDs up to 1TB.

The phone has a 50 MP main rear camera with a 2 MP depth sensor next to it, and an 8 MP selfie snapper. There's a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded into the power button, and a huge 6,000 mAh battery too, with support for 44W fast wired charging even.

The handset runs Android 14 with vivo's Funtouch OS 14 on top. It's 7.99 mm thick in the Agate Green version, and 8.09 mm thick if you opt for the Pacific Blue colorway, which has embedded sparkles in the back that are supposed to remind you of waves flowing in the ocean. The Y38 also has an IP64 certification for dust and splash resistance.

Not quite. Very similar to the C65 5G though, just with SD4 Gen 2 instead of D6300.

Really goid

For anyone who asks why they downgrade the screen to HD+ (while it's already FHD+ on Y36 5G) — they may try not to raise the price. With that chipset downgrade, gonna need to downgrade something I guess. Just my theory btw.
