Nokia 225 4G (2024)

It is a nice phone for someone looking for a basic phone with a few key features. It has parental controls which can disable internet, camera and sharing. The free games include Snake, Blackjack, Arrow Master, Ninja Up, and Air Strike. The paid for games include Racing Attack, Doodle Jump, Crossy Road, and Football cup. It comes with very little storage so a MicroSD card would be recommended. It features a Cloud Apps portal in the US but not in the UK and Europe. ** It is just a smaller version of the Nokia 235 4G (2024), so I would recommend that one if you don't want a tiny phone. **

Works fine, can recommend. I was searching for 215 4G 2024. but it has very limited availability and it is not listed on HMD website for local regions in places i searched.
The phone is neat but its software features are not coping well in a world in which we have a lot of niceties carried on from S40, Symbian, Bada, FirefoxOS etc etc. (not to mention Android and iOS). This is not a bad thing but many places in the phone are very limiting like fixed SMS memory (nobody even knows the number, i hit hard limit of about 500 on 225 4G (2020) but unsure about 2024 on) but without an option to delete old messages.
A few longer notes for potential buyers (i will make comparison with 225 4G from 2020 which i have used for a while):
The GOOD:
- battery life seem to be improved compared to previous 225 4G (2020)
- software was actually improved in some places so now we have option to limit charging to 80% and we have power saver. Many modern phones dont have power charging limit so this is a welcome change. UI slightly changed in a few places but it is the same old S30+ UI so you wont be lost in it.
- T9 works really good. Now, i sold my 225 4G 2020 12 months ago so i cannot compare it with 225 4G (2024) in realtime however T9 was generally never an issue here.
- the fact that 215, 225, 235, 3210 and similar phones have the same base means that they should have almost identical options and way of functioning (minus 215, no camera there). This is a plus because this time you can choose bigger screen (215, 235) or compact case (225, 3210). Unsure about 220, that is region specific so i wont cover it here
- VoLTE works fine, no issues there. It does improve sound a bit however i have yet to test it on more calls. Initial tests are looking good tho.
- While camera is nothing to write home about, it is okay to snap a picture of a flower you wanna identify or maybe a poster in the city, to retain some info. Remember: this phone has no note taking program so taking images is a nice thing. It also has voice recorder which is fine for most cases
- Like on 224 4G from 2020, new model is not showing any slowdowns. Plenty of power for daily tasks. Old model was a bit slow when you have a lot of SMS messages and it can choke if you try to open 200MB MP3 file which has 3h podcast (for example) however i have yet to see what will happen on new model when i fill my inbox. As for Mp3 files, i chop my podcasts into smaller pieces these days, it is something i started doing when i was using 225 2020 and that trick really helps with time management and to avoid overloading the phone with something silly as loading a big MP3 file
The BAD:
- Probably the most obvious visual change: case is dyed now compared to 225 4G (2020) which was made from coloured plastic. I have a blue model and the base is black plastic now, with blue paint on top of it. Not a good decision, if you ask me. How good will it survive pockets, that remains to be seen
- neat 225 4G (2020) shortcut for accessing menu with mobile data and bluetooth is not available anymore (previously you could open main menu and hold # (hash) key). Moreover, shortcuts on the main screen are not editable anymore so now the left one is a multi shortcut panel (you can add sections like Messages or Snake game and access it quickly) and right one is fixed to Camera.
- backup is still super rudimentary meaning you can backup SMS and/or contacts only. no settings backup, no blocked numbers or any adjustments to profiles etc etc. It is not useless as an option but it is borderline bad since we are used to much more. Not to add the fact that after software updates, which do happen with HMD based Nokia feature phones, system might reset to default. In that case, restoring backup brings nothing useful since i have to go over the whole phone again and check all settings.
- the fact that there is no "Do Not Disturb" mode is a bummer. People are used to it and we are not powering down phones anymore. DND would be a very good addition since i dont really want to change these things manually anymore.
- again, we have call blocker however you cannot export numbers you saved (backup is not covering that). Moreover, there is no way to block calls and sms from numbers which are not in the address book. Blackberry had this (they called it Firewall in BBOS6/7), android can have this via program called Silence, Google implemented plethora of call blocking options using AI recently if you use their services. Everybody is so into blocking robocalls and spammers and yet i dont see much evidence of that in phone software.
- some might say that automatic call recorder should be a must. While i dont think it is a must have, it would be nice to have it to avoid case in which you forgot to record a call
Essentially, this phone is good but software can be improved a bit. There are quirks here and there like SMS message would arrive but notifications are late a bit but those are quirks and general situation is better than before (on 225 from 2020 sometimes you would get a beep for message and no notification so you would have to check messages from time to time and in them color/indicator for new messages is basically non-existent). SO it is better after all (new SMS markers in Messages is very small and not really distinguishable yet) but can be much better.

Bro you comparing Apples and Pears.
In my opinion bigger is always better.
Rather will have in my living room a 100 inch TV than a 25-30 inch monitor.
Just an example.
Having a home cinema with main subwoofer and 10 speakers is always better than having a home cinema with 1 subwoofer and just 2 speakers or no subwoofer.
Etc.

Now those who were always bragging for small phones with SD slot and jack should be happy to have a decent phone.
We i mean others were always happy for a serious device 6.7 inch or bigger.
Small phones are for kids and elderly people who are unable to use smartphone and for those who still complain how big is that phone and why no small phones are available to buy.
Now you have your chance.
