Positives first; this phone has a very nice feel to it, the buttons are really good. Negatives; gps maps are basic an does not compare with the version on the C5. Any phone no matter how basic should have volume control buttons and most importantly should be able to minimize apps..

you can use first download load the country map from ovi map , then go to the setting , uncheck the internet option , and check gps option.
and enjoy the gps service for free

Anonymous, 26 Nov 2010Can anybody guide about its GPS / navigation function. I do... moreyes, you are right. no service charges to use gps, better still: no network connection needed, also works at sea.
the preloaded maps are very detailed and contain markers for post offices, museums, hospitals etc. gps is very accurate (you can tell at which side of the street you are), although it can take a long time to get a first location fix (several minutes). after that, if you didn't move too far, a new fix is quickly established. it also has a compass.
you can download additional maps (70+ countries) for free and install over usb. preloaded maps depend on region where you bought it (i bought it in china, so i have china preloaded).

Can anybody guide about its GPS / navigation function. I do not want to pay charges for service provider GPS assistance(A-GPS). Will it show locations, maps(preloaded) by direct communication with satellite or not display. I am confused about its free navigation lifetime what nokia told. It means lifetime we will have free location, maps view by GPS communication with satellite. Am i right. Please light on such issues.

At the fisrt moment the phone is fast and great. BUT..... the engineers have been drinking too much - there are no microphone hole, not in buttons, not in any side, there just doesn't exist such thing! And that brings another problem, microphone is hidden behind housing and other people have difficulties to hear me. :(

I'm really disappointed, this is the last Nokia phone in my life. No more Nokia. :(

                              NO-way-KIA Support...

Here's something to watch out for. I'm in New Zealand. Yesterday I rang the local NOKIA FreePhone Support number to ask about a possible firmware update for my wife's (Nokia) phone, but that's another story.

While I was on the call, I asked about a firmware update for my 2710C. I know there's an update on the Nokia website.

                              Anyway, here's the drill.

First, they ask you to key in *#06# on your phone's keypad. This is the code to look up the Electronic Serial Number. You then have to read the Serial Number out to them. No SN, No Support! (Which was why I couldn't get any help on my wife's phone, since she had it at the time.)

Ok, I suppose, with the number of stolen phones in circulation, that's fair enough. I don't really object to that. Here's what I do object to:

When I read back the SN for my 2710, the "Support" Tech told me, "Oh, this phone was originally sold into Singapore, you'll have to send it back there for any service."

                              "That's fairly inconvenient, I said."

But that's Nokia's position on providing service for my phone. In spite of the fact that it was legally purchased in New Zealand, from a fully legal business operating out of a shop in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, under the New Zealand Government's Parallal Importing legislation. All perfectly legal and above board.

But NOKIA says, Sorry, we won't give you any (telephone) support.

                              Well, guess what?

In this Global Day and Age, where air travel is the way to get around the planet, that's not good enough.

That's the last time I'll buy a new NOKIA phone, at least without making very sure the competition doesn't offer something equally good. I only bothered with NO-kia this time because I'm familiar with them, but to hell with that. With policies like that, I'll learn a new phone operating system before I buy another NO-kia.

Check out the local NO-kia Support policies before you buy - or buy another brand!

This phone is great, absolutely amazing for what it is for and i highly recommend it, dont let anyone tell you otherwise, the only downside is the slightly small screen when browsing and looking at the maps but otherwise 100% for the 2710 :)
