lightbulb head or rather shithead i think you've said all you wanted to say now. everybody knows you were sexually assaulted as a kid and no one blames you for it, no need to take your anger out on other people who don't know what really happened to you. don't worry the bad man who sodomized you day and night during the last 10 years is already in jail. i know a psychiatrist who can help you out with therapy. there there lightbulb head time to take your medicine now....

    Lightbulb head: You're wrong on three counts, sport. A. I have a wife B. Chief Medic already has a girlfriend C. I don't use a PC, I use a Macintosh. :-)

This website is simply unsuitable for further EDUCATED and INTELLIGENT exchange on the 5140, seeing how online idiots are posting meaningless garbage.

In behalf of Peter/nokiapete, I'm reiterating this call to all Nokia 5140 owners, techheads and enthusiasts: join us in our discussion group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/5140. We'll see you all there!

Douglas: I'm afraid I have the same problem too, but it's primarily due to the fact that my service provider is currently unable to support the 5140's GPRS settings. If your service provider has those settings, then half of your problem is solved. They should be able to activate those settings for your surfing pleasure.

guess what pete.the phone aint gonna be destroyed.sorry i am not crazy enouph to swim with it,although it has crossed my mind.in the meantime i am also looking for a new car.audi a8 is too expensive for a nurse to preserve(a lot of fuel, expensive repairs etc.).i am gonna keep the siemens (who gives a fuck about prestige anyway)since it has proved tough enough.i will try again to join the group.damn.i hate computers.everything is so complicated.

Chief Medic, you can post to the group online instead of by email, but to join the group you will need an email address of some sort. However, this can be a Yahoo email account, (assuming you don't already have a Hotmail account which is similar) which you can easily set up when you activate your membership of the group. So you don't need an email program or anything - it's all possible by your internet connection just like this forum is.

So you're definitely gonna destroy that poor little phone then...? Well, I look forward to hearing just how resistant to the salty water is proves! Any chance you can upload a picture when you've done, either onto my 5140 group of someplace else?

As for a suitable replacement, I can't really think of any currently available model which would prove tough enough for yourself... Sorry! Any other suggestions anyone?

i tried to join the group peter but i see that it involves e-mail.the internet connection i use does not support e-mail.i will be on this forum if you want to ask me anything about the m65 in terms of comparison.by the way,i am expecting the ticket for overspeeding from day to day(actually it will go to my brother).and if you think i am ill,you are absolutely right(many of the patients and coleagues at the hospital believe the same thing).tomorow i will take the phone for a swim in the sea.to be honest i think i will change the m65 with new phone(n6230 or n7610 or s65).i may be just a nurse, but my supervising position requires some prestige.the yellow rubber around the m65 does not help in that factor.what do you suggest?

                    Wow, you obviously don't have speed cameras in your country then, Chief Medic! That was one heck of a test to do! And you've had that phone how long -- a month...? You are one brave (or ill) guy :-}

Well, you (and your G/F) are more than welcome to join the group you know. It would be great to have someone with the '65 on the list so that we can compare our phones and ask each other questions. Consider it!

hallo guys.my car is not ready yet,but i conducted the test on another one(the jaguar xkr coupe of my brother).i performed the test on the same type of surface(concrete)but with a little higher speed(about 190km/h).shit,i work in a hospital so it will be easy for me to visit a phychiatrist.i say that cause i threw the m65 out of the window myself.when i picked it up i was still on,but it turned off on its own after a few seconds.there was no important external damage, apart from the scratches on the metal and the plastic.the phone seems to function properly up to know, although it turns off automatically a few times.it is still early to say whether or not it has survived the crush, since i will need a few days of use to judge it. peter, i dont think i should join the group, cause i dont own a 5140(although my g/f does).

I've actually had four Motorolas in the past, and with each newer model the user interface became more and more counter-intuitive and difficult to use. The V60i I have here is dreadful in this regard. Takes me ages to find many functions and as for SMS... :-(( Glad I didn't pay for it--wouldn't buy another Moto that's for sure. Having said that, the 5140 interface is bloated after the older Nokias I have been used to. Just sending SMS seems to take twice as many keystrokes as on my 5210.

Looking forward to your tests, Chief Medic. BTW, have you joined my 5140 Yahoogroup yet? Just uploaded some screenshots of the 5140 Gadget Show tests I mentioned down this board.

Peter: You're not the only one saying how terrible Motorola is in terms of user-friendliness. I'm currently working for a television station, and I am aware how many of our field reporters were equipped with new Motorola camera phones for news gathering operations. They eventually brought up several complaints, all involving the interface of the unit, and they're currently requesting that these be replaced with easier to use models.

Chief Medic: Well, I do hope you get your car back soon. I just got my own car myself last week, and I know how much of a hassle it is to go about without transport. Since you're in a better position to conduct such a test on both models, might we request you to so, maybe at an appropriate time? We'll be waiting for your evaluation. Thanks.

well the nokia interface has always been user friendly.the interface of the m65 is well understood by me as i have been a siemens user for years.somebody who buys a siemens for the first time will have many difficulties, since those phones are based on a strange file system.regarding the durability,i plan to run the 5140 test when i get my car back(remember gadgeteer,we discussed it previously).peter i believe no phone ,regardless the brandwould survive the fall.

Yes, I'm in agreement with you there again Gadgeteer re the user interface on Nokia's being the best out there for ease of use. (You should try Moto's for an example in how not to do these things)!

Sorry to hear about the damage, Chief Medic :-( Would the M65 have survived this fall do you think? Not sure if the Nokia would. It would be interesting indeed to see the two tested to destruction. But only in a scientific way of course. I have yet to see an M65 in the flesh so cannnot comment on which I think would 'win'.

Chief Medic: Yes, the 5140's rather small 128x128 pixel, 4096-color screen is quite a liability compared to larger screen phones out in the market today. Same thing with the memory capacity. But I guess another of Nokia's advantage would be user-friendliness. From my personal comparison of three brands, I found Nokia's interface easiest to use. Whether or not the M65's metal frame contributes to the phone's overall durability remains a question. Maybe someone would care to do an objective stress test to see which of the two is more rugged...?

well well...i made my first verdict about the two phones today.the m65 has a significantly low battery life(probably due to the larger screen)where the 5140 has no such problem.studying the structure of the phones i have seen that the m65 has better durability due to the metal frame which prevents the phone of cutting in half when bumping.unfortunately the m65 has software problems(gets stuck all the time).i believe that the m65 has just two advantages when compared to the 5140:the bigger screen and more memory(11mb instead of 4mb).anyways i didnt have the time to inspect the phones any further cause i was unlucky today.i had gone to pick up my girlfriend from the apartment she lives.while i was in a flower pot fell off the 5th floor balcony and landed onto the hood of my car which i had parked right below.gadgetter and peter do you know how much an a8 hood costs?
