I bought my Nokia 5140i over in Australia and I just moved back to the states. Is if easy to switch it over to make calls in America? Can I just buy a sim card and go to one the pay as you go plans or do I need to go through the whole process of buying a new phone and plan? I've come to appreciate the pay as you go style they have in Australia and I would love to keep going with that? Anyone have any suggestions?

This phone is robust, easy menu selection, lasting batteries and normal buttons for people with strong hands. All in all I think it's a great successor of some previous phones I had from Nokia. And most of all it wasn't very expensive. I only wish it would have teleportation device so I could go to Bahamas.

This phone is packed with unusual features. How many others offer a decibel meter, thermometer, torch, compass, stopwatch, voice recorder etc? I had mine for over two years and it performed faultlessly. I have only replaced it because it did not have bluetooth. I agree the screen could be bigger and the camera higher resolution, but for a freebie supplied by my service provider, it was hard to beat!

I just ordered my phone on ebay. Had to order out of the state b/c they don't sell this phone here. I can't wait. This phone reminds me of the Panasonic Duramax. I have a Nokisa 6010. Durable phone. Nokia knows what they are doing.
Ill let you all know how I I like it.

Best. Damn. Phone. Ever. Period. I've had my first gen 5140i since they first came out. 2 batteries, 5 cases & 10(!) keypads later, the only faults I can find are the camera Quality & the memory size, everything else is awesome.

This phone is definitley the most rugged of what is available yet could be much better. I am an earthmoving contractor and ususlly destroy a phone within 3months. In two years this one has been left in rain, had mud smeared through it and been dropped numerously without ill affect.
Battery life is good but memory frustratingly small. The rubber key pad goes soft and falls out within 6 months and its a bit slow for texting accurately. I am now on my third key pad and take care to keep the sun off the keypad as I suspect the UV attacks it. I have also needed 2 new cases (at $100 each including rubber keypad!!!)as the screen cover eventually scratches or gets white bleamishes where dented. Even so its the toughest case I have experienced.
Overall the font sizes are too small, especially the time display. I shouldnt have to put glasses on every time I want to use the phone! When you key in a phone number the numerals are enormous (wonderful for older eyes) but when you callup a number from the address book it is in small font and difficult to see (I have already set the phone on the largest font size).
The camera is disappointing as most images are too blury for printing even at postcard size.
When I bought the phone the sales rep said it had blue tooth but alas he was wrong so using the phone hands free in the truck without a tangle of cords is an unnecessary issue for me.
Overall a good phone that could be much better. I would buy another one today but only because something better is not yet available or the model has not been upgraded.
