Guys,
I see there are many current owners of 5800 NE here. I have a couple of questions and may someone can help me before I buy it. Thanks in advance for any advice!
So my questions:
1. I’m riding a motorbike and often in areas I’m not familiar. So, stand alone navigation/mapping properties are essential.
Question 1: can it work as a stand alone GPS navigator without being linked to the telephone network? For example, there is no cell signal but I need to position myself and use its own map to find a way. I do not like to use my car navigator (TomTom 920) being on bike. So can 5800 NE be used as a replacement of a GPS NAVIGATOR?
2. I’m not listening music a lot more a-books during my long rides.
Question2: Does 5800 NE have features such as: bookmarking, fast forward/rewind MP3 files, resume listening from the last position, etc.
3. I’m in the US and want to have an unblocked phone that would work not in other countries just changing SIM-card.
Question 3: Will it work for this?
Thank a lot for advices!!!

Use the map installer software you can get from Nokia. That way the maps are downloaded using your computers internet and transferred once off to your phone. No need to download on the fly.

yes to all viewers, i am so happy to have this mobile, the music sound clarity is only thing good inthis mobile as per my experience, and when you are doing multi tasks at a time with the mobile then the performance speed wil be very less.

Anonymous, 04 Nov 2009It's a pitty that this phone is not yet at the shelves of o... moreThis is the same as the 5800XM the only difference is this phone has got a lifetime navigation license, which in anycase is crap when you live in South Africa, as I do myself, if you use the nokia maps for navigation the maps constantly keeps downloading map content and detail as you drive and being in South Africa you know we are paying R2.00 per mb of data, so by driving from JHB to Cape Town will cost you about R200.00 worth of data which does not make sence, this is 100% the same as the 5800xm which im using, just go and buy the 5800xm at any retailer, they are not going for about R3500.oo on prepaid and just get the Garmin Maps which uses the onboard maps for navigation meaning it will not cost you a cent to use it while driving.
Best of luck.

So now I want to write some words to this very nice phone "navigation edition". I bought this phone last week in germany.
First I was really dissapointed, because of the bad look of the all-glossy plastic and the really bad build quality of my first "5800 Xpress music", bought in May 2009 (not the "navigation edition"). So I sent it back. The frame was flimsy and clicked all the time by touching it.
So when I saw the " navigation edition" in the internet, I was again interested, because I always liked the body language of the 5800. And with the diffrent colors of the naviagation edition, it really seems interesting to me again. So I ordered it. Of course without a lot of enthusiasm, because I didn't thought, that there should have changed a lot in bad build quality.
An then... two days later, there it was. The new 5800 "navigation edtion"!! I took it out of the box, to see how it looks in reality. Because in the internet there weren't a lot of live-pics for this device. And DAMN, this phone looked awsome!!! First think I really asked myself was, "why nokia doesen't realesed this phone first!?". It looks really gorgeous with his glossy chromeframe. The glossy frame is very scratch resistant! The rest is made of a smooth surface (for example found on the htc touch 3g), that feels very good and more high quality then the glossy plastic on the "Xpress Music Edition". AND THE BUILD QUALITY WAS PERFECT TOO!!!
Unbelieveble, but there was not one part on the phone that was clicking. Well done nokia! Really, no comparison to the 5800 "Xpress Music Edition".
All the other things, like software Symbian 5th Edtion, camera and so on, are the same as found on the "Xpress Music Edition" This phone I definitly gonna keep!!!
