Nokia 6233

I've been using the 6233 for a week now and it's a lot like my old 6230i but loaded with many extras.
The 6233 is small compared to many other 3G phones, very comfortable in the hand and easy-to-use.
Compared to the 6230i, the 6233 has a design that is more robust. It also provides faster access to the menus, has better camera and video functions and comes with a set of nice speakers.
Setting up Nokia's PC Suite with infrared and bluetooth connectivity was a breeze. Similarly, the free blue tooth headset that came with the phone was also easy to setup.
I have, however, spotted a few things that in my opinion could have been better: -
1. battery life - This is (at best) average. I need to charge the phone every 2 to 2.5 days depending on usage (even though the phone's power saver and sleep modes are on).
2. font size - The "large" font is very small compared to the "large" font in the 6230i.
3. Headphone sound - This is a lot softer compared to the 6230i. I need to set it to level 7 or 8 compared to 5 previously to achieve the same loudness.
4. Standard SMS alert - While still audible, it is a lot softer than the 6230i's alert (perhaps too soft).
5. Ring tone level - Ring tone level 4 is too soft, while level 5 is very loud. This should be more balanced.

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE CLARIFY WHETHER THIS PHONE HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE MARKET BY NOKIA ??? as stated in this comment( I HAVE COPY PASTED IT HERE FROM -- EmailMark 2006-07-17 10:29 nEG5 )
---- Have had this on T-Mobile for 2 weeks but the software has crashed and it wont dial out. T-Mobile were going to courier an exchange to me but i got a phone call this morning saying they could not now do so. The reason being that Nokia have recalled the phone due to the number of complaints and faults on the phone. This is a shame as it is a nice phone. Best avoid though until Nokia sort it out.

at first when it came out i thought that this phone looks awful but since i was on a budget and needed a phone quick i got it and GLAD to say it is really reliable. the pictures are quite hazy when you download it to the lap top although its a 2MP phone and of cuz there is no camera in the front for video calls. other than that, its sturdy! its really well designed and not so plastic like some other nokia models (6280) the key pad is easy to use and the mini sd card can be upgraded to a 1mb. so if u were on a tight budget n need a good 3g nokia phone, this is it! can get you by.. and oh yeah i got a free blue tooth headset along with it for the price i paid... its a steal! thanks nokia!

hey guys i wanna ask some questions about this phone.
1. which screen is bigger? nokia 6233 or nokia 6280? it seems that nokia6280 has a bigger screen. i saw nokia 6233's screen and i think its not that big like 6280.
2. how can i transfer large files like 20mb into my phone. i want to send movies from my friend's phone, and i was thinking of my phone's internal memory which is only 6mb. im having doubt to send it because it might crash. can i send this 20mb file to my phone? thanks.

Bought this one from OPTUS (Australia) last week. It is OK phone but be aware - although purchased through OPTUS in OPTUS store, no live TV via 3G. Supposingly OPTUS is working on it but so far no luck - "Your phone does not support live TV" message when you try. Sucks. Also, I went to check the 6234 in Vodafone store and it is about 3mm thinner, I thought they were supposed to be the same.

Before considering any remarks make sure it's first verify. Nokia's new series 40 OS unlike the older ones found in phone like 6230, 6230i or even symbian ones like 6600, 7610 or N70 is able to utilise external memory (memory card) completely!
Meaning it actually blends in with the internal mamory in such a way that incoming files if it's larger than what internal memory can accept will be saved at memory card instead.
That's what i do when transfering my converted mpeg4 anime video inside phone via bluetooth. Mind you, file size is about 40mb.
Reason, too lazy to take out memory card..
Who cares even if other brands have larger internal memory!
Take for instant motorola, it has bigger internal memory, expandable too.. but if you want to use any mp3 as ringtones, you have to save it into internal memory lamb!
Sony ericsson w800i, try accessing folders with loads of pictures or had too many contacts and your phone will lag like nobody business..
Samsung's latest P750 3.2 megapixel phone.. Big deal, my friend's phone can't even access external momory most of the time even when the icon (that shows external memory is inserted) is there.
No phone is perfect, but when it comes to having a daily practical phone that visually had everything with:
Good design,
Stable software - The usual speedy, user friendly software! (notice so far no one complain much on 6233 compared to previous or even other latest nokia phones..)
Music and video (try total video converter, videos converted to mpeg4 is sharper than even symbian's smart movie with loud and clear sound)
Fantastic external speaker (so far the phone with such good external speaker is none other than w550i ONLY)
Unrivaled built - Made of high quality stainless steel. Unless you're talking about 8800.. if not this phone's built is so far the best in nokia's history.
Quality screen - Right size with ability to change font size in message, contacts and web browsing.
Good battery life - Hey, it's using 9300i's battery, what do you expect!!
Comfortable button.. responsive and good feel.
3G's Video calls available - Finally i got something that i can see the caller but he can't see me.. quite fun. Though you can occasionally face to back camera to allow caller to see you. Cute :-)
Last but not least, the right dimension - Not too big or small.. perfect for young executives..
No phone is perfect but being a tech geek, personally, this is the best among so many phones changed these 2 years.
My 2cents worth

6233 internaL MEMORY is 6mb,how would it auto transfer file to memory card without first receiving n internal mem than transfer it to card, then delete from phone memory. This is the worse cumbersome procedure to undertake. How come n this phone its has changed, when till N80 ad 6280 hav the old RUN.Nokia would u please consider these foolish mistakes ad carry its on ad onn.SE SAM have option at time of received file to ask for saving option.By the way i am most disappointed abt 6131 which has 16million colors 2.2inch screen but zero battery life plus the screen outline black with silver lining looks akward.then 1.3 cam iwithout focus it average whats the fun n copying feature of E60 E70 on this flip cell.Nonsense to expect from Nokia.

One thing is for sure, Nokia is beyond all doubts the Lion King in connecting the people ensuring all the communication possibilities to their best in each of its cellular phones but we should admit it completely loses to Sony Ericsson in Multimedia. Even the interface and phone designs are not comparable with those by Sony Ericsson. Its camera and media players are inferior to SE with every aspect. Same is true for Nokia 6233. Like its predecessors 6270,/6280 and 6230i, it got the same loopholes which are still complained everywhere. It seems Nokia has no concern with what its users cry for, rather it keeps on throwing whatever it foresees better for its profitability, it's truly enjoying its leading position in the market and probably it's aware of the fact that none among its competitors has got the capabilities to manufacture the best communication device like it does. In my opinion its marketing cell/department should keep in close in touch with its fans and should not disappoint them at any cost. What a pity if its lovers switch on the other brand merely due to its poor design and pathetic multimedia capabilities. Look the interface of Media Player in its phones especially in N91, N80 and E60. It's nothing except a pity.

May be a potato head for asking this question... But how do you video call on it?
There isn't a camera facing the user. All I can figure is that the camera rotates but I can't for the life of me figure it out...

T-Mobile today again confirmed that a lot of customers have had problems with the phone and are recalling them all. The problem i had was that despite the phone showing i had a signal when you dialled out the phone would not call out. It eventually said on screen connection error. The phone had started playing up when i used the MP3 and during a song it switched itself off and then back on. From the time it worked it seemed a good phone. Im sure when software bugs are ironed it then it will sell well.
