No, Nokia 6280 is NOT a Symbian phone. It runs the Series 40 platform.

i had the bug that when i played mp3 songs on the loudspeaker my signal got lost but when i changed dual band to GSM mode i dont have any problems any more, i dont lose any signal

Yes, its sumbian. Yes it has an expandable Mini SD Slot on left side of the phone.

i just read through the opinion that posted here...i am indded in dilleme now..actually i hav made up my mind to by 6280 dy,but can sum1 tell me whether it's a smart choice to buy it? does the restartin auntomatically prob still couldnt be resolved?

This is a very nice phone...
Unfortunately these phones have quite a few problems, and its not one or 2 but of the 15 or so of my friends and coleagues who have a 6280 about 12 of them have problems.
They have all sorts of software problems and turn off intermittantly, I find this happens most often when you have more than 800 msgs in the memory (shared between inbox and outbox) Another problem is with the predictive text dictionary. When you "save" a word and it doesnt store it into the dictionary. Very Very Annoying!
And signal... it drops out to nothing turn the phone off and on and it comes back. the problem is the missed calls while you dont realise you have no signal

Mine is version 3.70 and seems to be working ok. But I'm using it for data connection and web surfing only. I was disappointed that email attachment has a limit of 100kb that means it cannot send its own pictures ! Any editing of the jpeg photo will automatically make it into a small gif file ! Very inconvenient ! It uses S 40 that means usual Symbian 60 prgs don't work.

These phones are crap!! the first one i got had dead pixles, now my 2nd one has been sent to nokia twice as it had all sorts of software problems and turns off, the most recent time i received the phone back, it turned off 5 times in about an hour. I sent it back to nokia again and they said they couldnt replicate the fault and sent it back to me. Even though i work for vodafone Australia and im supposed to recommend these handsets to our customers, they could not fix the problem with my phone or even replace it (again).
Ive had it back for 3 days now and it has already turned off twice today.
Im not impressed and so far any customer that has asked me what phone to buy and queried the 6280, i have warned them against it as i warn you.
however the decision is yours, im sure some 6280s dont have problems. one or two maybe.
p.s no firmware updates so far has resolved the problem of predictive text (dictionary) not saving 'spelled' words into the dictionary. Very Very Annoying!

MMS Resolution Poor!
I recently got the N6280. It is a great phone. Very fast application loading. Just one thing really bugs me: When receiving an MMS, the phone automatically reduces images from 640x480 to 128x96.
I've phoned various Nokia (couldn't)care(less) centres and even queried it online, but no one seems to be able to give me a proper explanation. The best reason is that it "is a phone feature". Pretty sad to have a QVGA screen, and then installing software that cannot cope with downloading a proper image file.
Anyone got more information or some way of fixing this? Even my previous N6600, with a far inferior screen resolution was able to cope!

when i connect my 6280 mobile to pc through USB the PC will get restart automatically.
need a solution.
