Battery life is a very significant issue for every phone.
For me battery efficiency is the reliability and performance of a phone. If you want a proof for this i will compare Nokia 8910 to 8800.Nokia 8910 in case of 40 minutes of talking and 1 hour of using other applications the phone worked 5-6 days of operating time.
Stand by time is twice from operating time.
I have used many phones but 8910 is the most decent, reliable phone i have ever used.

The capacity of 8800 is Li-Ion battery forms only 600 mAh, which is too short. In average it worked for a day in case of an hour of talks, and i encountered fast battery discharge during the talk and phone turned off. With 30 minutes of talks the device lived till the next morning and turned off at the first call (two charge points). You should not trust the battery indicator. The device may be used not more than for a day, two days are possible only with little short conversations, NO use of other functions.
If you want somehow better battery life it's better to turn off the screen saver and use no bluetooth.

This Nokia 8800 "phone" isn't worth its money.Surely this "phone" has low battery life, functionality, performance and many software problems .
I wouldn't have a problem if it was a decent, reliable phone as Nokia 8910.Nokia should at least produce a decent ,quality phone and should be ashamed for this rip off.

efficient battery life? what's your guideline for a phone battery efficiency? i had the 8800 for about 6 weeks now, and it never crashes or restarts by itself, works perfectly. however, on battery itself, it has more room to improve if i compare it to my previous phone, SE P910i. the 8800 can standby for around 48 hrs with occasional calls, i.e 10 calls with around 5-10 mins each calls. if you are really a talker, the phone has a talktime of about 90 mins from full charge, that's my personal experience. if u have access to power supply, 240V or 115V every day or 2, i dont see why you cant get the phone working all the time. i had mine charged at night when i sleep, every night or every 2 nights, then it will last me a day on a busy day, or 2 days for occasional calls. perfect phone.!

Well to prevent from Crashing u can proceed to :
                a) Enhance the memory of phone.
                b) Quit all applications correctly like Mp3 player etc.

I'm on my third 8800, ie two replacements due to unfixable problems. I have to aknowledge the willingness to honour the warranty, a rare quality these days.
I brought the 8800 for its features and strong casing (plastic doesn't last that long)I am very happy in this regard. It is a huge pity that it effectively a piece of @$#* otherwise. I have experienced all the problems listed by others here, and were already experiencing problems with my current phone within the first day.

The difference between 8800 and 8801 is that 8800 is the Asian/Europian version and 8801 is the North-American version.Though both are triband GSM phones, they don't support GSM like other cell phones.
                        Nokia 8800: GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 (for Africa, Asia-Pacific, China, Europe, Latin America)
                        Nokia 8801: GSM 850 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 (for North America).
So if you stay or want to travel to Asian countries you can't use 8801.

If you want an honest opinion for this phone is that this phone has extremely short battery life. You have to recharge it over and over again.
(2)Many software problems( eg:switches off by itself, low voice clarity, poor camera,etc.).
(3)Heavy like a brick. It has stainless steel body case and that's why is heavy.
                        (4)Keypad isn't completely ergonomic
                        (5)Very poor performance even inexistent.

I used both versions 3.60 and 3.78 and none of them work properly, although 3.60 had the most problems.
I agree that this phone has good design but this doesn't help.
This phone is a good looking expensive bibelot and nothing else.
If you want to waste your money go for it.

I had the phn for about 3 months now with no problem since I upgraded the phone 3.78v. I think most or all the people who are having issue are from Nokia 8800 not 8801v. That's very interesting!!!!

Agreed, battery life is not great and the voice quality is low (I have a slight hearing disability and I have to use the earphones to hear properly).

i had no problems at all with V3.78 firmware. maybe i am lucky to get a good one which doesnt crash and restart and have other problems as stated. bottom of the line is, if evryone elses 8800 is working perfectly like mine is, i dont think there many negative points bout it to be given. just a phone made by nokia, was a phone, been a phone and will still be a phone. not a camera or mp3 player...

The differences between 8800 and 8801:
                                  8800: made in germany, 900/1800/1900
8801: made in korea, 850/1800/1900, only for us market
I have nokia 8801 and I don't have any software problem at all, the battery lasts more than one day. Just make sure at the first time you charge the battery, it should be at least 8 hours long.

                                    Hello everyone!
I read all opinions about Nokia 8800. What can I tell? In my opinion is the most beatiful mobile phone in the market. About software problems I talk with customer service and I think the problems find a end. I have a Nokia 8800 and I have no problems

Anyone started to encounter this problem with their 8800?(although i have a lot of problems with this phone)

Had my phone for 4 months now(version 3.78),and it seems to be happening frequently now. When i dial out or receive a call,i can't hear anything at all. I've asked the people who ring me if they can hear me, and they can...but for me, silence. No real way to fix it,i just keep turning the phone off and on again, including taking the battery off until it eventually works.

The latest 8800 firmware is 3.78 from last October. Although some bugs are fixed others remain (the phone still crashes, the voice clarity is still low, etc).
The new firmware 3.78 in reality doesn't solve the major problems of this phone.
Nokia produced a faulty, joke phone and that is Nokia 8800.
Think carefully before buying this "phone".
