Nokia at 3GSM - 6680, 6681 and 6101

At the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Nokia today introduced the 3G Series 60 smartphone with two cameras Nokia 6680 and Nokia 6681 which is almost the same as 6680, but without the 3G support and the second camera. The two smartphones add for a first time 262K color displays to the Nokia line of products. Also announced today is the new Nokia 6101 tri-band clamshell with Xpress audio messaging, which enables users to record and send a voice message to others over the GPRS network.

Nokia 6680

Cannes, France - At the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Nokia today introduced a new arrival to the 3G arena, the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone. The new Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is optimized for visual sharing, boasting two integrated cameras, a flash, and a bright screen of up to 262,144 colors. Designed for ease-of-use, the active slide covering the back camera of the Nokia 6680 provides fast and intuitive camera activation as well as effortless switching between cameras during a video call.

A wide range of smartphone features, including organizer, video streaming and Internet browser, are complemented by 3G-enabled features such as two-way video calls*, video sharing* and always-on e-mail, making the well-designed Nokia 6680 a versatile work tool. Based on the leading smartphone Series 60 Platform, the tri-band phone for GSM 900/1800/1900, EDGE and WCDMA networks offers seamless roaming in over 100 countries around the world. The Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is expected to be available in March 2005 with an estimated, unsubsidized sales price of approximately 500 euros.

In addition to two-way video calling* functionality, which enables remote video conferencing, the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone also provides for video sharing*, a new multimedia service that allows people to share live camera views or video clips during a normal voice call. By simply opening the camera slide, the show-you-what-I-mean type video can spontaneously be added to a voice call and dropped when no longer needed.

In addition to the integrated VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) at the front of the device, the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone also incorporates a 1.3 megapixel camera (1280 x 960 pixels) with a slide for camera activation and control. Capturing images is easier than ever with the slide and shoot functionality, where the camera is activated by simply opening the slide. Featuring a large bright active matrix color display with automatic brightness control, the Nokia 6680 imaging phone's smooth 6 x digital zoom, integrated LED-based flash, and high-quality lens provide for capturing sharp images. Furthermore, users can select from various color tones when capturing images, including sepia, negative as well as black and white.

Nokia 6681

Targeted at EDGE markets, the device offers enhanced mobile data experience on top of a compelling feature set

Cannes, France - At the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Nokia today introduced the Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone, an elegant and versatile productivity and entertainment tool featuring an organizer, a 1.3 megapixel camera, a full Internet browser, a music player and easy printing with the Nokia XpressPrint solution. The tri-band phone for GSM 900/1800/1900 and EDGE markets provides an enhanced mobile user experience. The Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone is expected to be available in April 2005 with an estimated, unsubsidized sales price of approximately 450 euros.

A variant of the 3G-optimized Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone, also introduced today, the Nokia 6681 is targeted at users in both GSM and EDGE (Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution) markets. In addition to numerous productivity features, such as e-mail, organizer and easy synchronization with compatible PCs, the Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone also offers convenient web browsing and high quality video streaming over EDGE, with data connectivity of up to 236.8 kilobytes per second. Furthermore, similar in functionality but a variant designed for the Americas markets, the Nokia 6682 imaging smartphone is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2005.

With the integrated Push to talk* functionality, Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone users can use the handset like a walkie-talkie at the push of a single dedicated button. Additionally, some mobile games, such as Snake, Card Deck and a new 3D snowboarding game, will be supplied on the Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone's MMC card. The user experience is also further enhanced by the phone's display of up to 262,144 colors.

Nokia 6101

At the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Nokia today expanded its portfolio of folding mobile phones with the stylish Nokia 6101 camera phone. In addition to offering consumers the latest mobile technology in an elegant fold concept, the Nokia 6101 provides operators with an extended range of customization features. The compact, triband phone will be available in two versions: a GSM 900/1800/1900 version primarily for Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Asian markets, and a GSM 850/1800/1900 model targeted towards the Americas. With an estimated retail price of less than 250 EUR, excluding taxes and subsidies, the Nokia 6101 is expected to start shipping in the second quarter of 2005.

The Nokia 6101 camera phone also introduces a new feature, Nokia Xpress audio messaging, which enables users to record and send a voice message to others over the GPRS network. With the touch of a few buttons, consumers can send their audio message -- a holiday greeting, personal congratulations or even a special moment like a grandchild's first words -- and share it with others via Nokia Xpress audio messaging. Once a message has been received, it can be stored in the phone and played when desired.

Nokia Xpress audio messaging nicely complements the Nokia 6101's push to talk technology, which allows users to connect to others -- be it a group or an individual -- over GPRS, similar to using a walkie-talkie. Several operators worldwide have introduced push to talk services for consumers.
