From 4GB its called MicroSD HC, but it does not support it, because it's a newer and advanced technology, so this is the reason why you can't format the memory card.

I still have one of these just charged it up after many years. What a flashback.. Got SUPER hot while charging but still seems to work. It seems it won't format a 4GB SD card, is there a size limit?
